Alica Schmidt

Alica Schmidt in 2018
Alica Schmidt in 2018
  • ... that German runner Alica Schmidt, who has qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics, has won multiple European junior relay medals? Source: Olympics: [1] "Alica Schmidt vom SCC Berlin haben sich jeweils für die Staffel qualifiziert." ("Alica Schmidt from SCC Berlin has qualified for the relay."), European junior medals: [2] "In der zurückliegenden Saison hatte sich die Zweite der U20-EM 2017 mit der Staffe" ("Last season, she won the U-20 European Championships relay event")
  • ...Alt1 that German runner Alica Schmidt (pictured) runs very fast, but 745,000 people follow her? Sources are obvious, a hook that dyk insiders might find interesting is"DYK that 600 people read this article yesterday .... and its not on the main page yet?" Victuallers (talk) 21:57, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

5x expanded by Joseph2302 (talk) of Ireadbooks12's stub. Self-nominated at 16:48, 8 July 2021 (UTC).

  • reviewing. Lots of refs and length is fine. Olympics This article is on average getting ~1,000 views a day and its not yet on the main page? Is that a new DYK stat record? I have a COI clash with Alt1 so that's not covered here. The QPQ is done. The image is one that I cropped but license is good. I have added @Ireadbooks12: who created the stub to the credits as this works as an expand and as a new article. However the main hook is unsupported. I can see no refs above or in the article that talk about "won multiple European junior relay medals". @Joseph2302: can you resolve? Victuallers (talk) 10:49, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the review, I will look for a source that explicitly mentions both medals (there are sources for each medal, but not one that mentions both- I'll have to look German articles again, as English sources are mostly garbage newspapers), or ALT1 is fine. As for the credits, Ireadbooks12 created this article as a 4 sentence unsourced article [3], which is something we shouldn't be encouraging. They are also now blocked for unsourced editing. Generally, I support sharing credit, but not when it would encourage the creation of unsourced BLPs. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:55, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Victuallers Added [4], which says "Schmidt was part of the German teams that finished second in the 4×400m relay event at the 2017 European Athletics U20 Championships and third in the same discipline at the 2019 European Athletics U23 Championships." It's the best source I can find that mentions both accomplishments in one source. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:12, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
I disagree about the sharing of credit. This user may have since been blocked but the creation of an unsourced first draft by a newish user is not a major problem, it could have been quickly sourced and it was not deleted. In fact without it you/we would not have a stub to expand. I disagree that we should rewrite history because this user later broke other rules. Without Ireadbooks12's creation then there is no expand to approve. Victuallers (talk) 11:21, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
I disagree, but not going to fight it. even without the stub, I could have found a redlink at Germany at the 2020 Summer Olympics (As I've been looking thorugh the counties at this Olympics articles). Joseph2302 (talk) 11:25, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
:For her Instagram followers, it now looks to be 1.8 mill. I'm trying to find a reliable source for this number though. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:25, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
My confusion about the refs. I saw the the word "won" and looked for a ref that she had won races, but I should have read "won medal" as in "won Silver medal after being beaten in the race". The sources are very poor - I saw New York Times and then saw that they were re-publishing an article from "The Sun" - surprising. Victuallers (talk) 11:30, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
All reffed up and GTG. Main hook only. Another can approve ALT1 if wanted. Victuallers (talk) 14:15, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
to T:DYK/P7 as lead hook
