  • ... that Venezuelan freedom fighter Ana María Campos died from torture injuries in the shallows of Lake Maracaibo, five years after supporting the revolutionary victory there? Source: 1 "murió Ana María, algunos historiadores afirman que fue bañándose en las aguas el Lago de Maracaibo al sufrir un ataque de epilepsia, producto del trauma físico que le dejó la tortura [...] presenciar como sus sueños de libertad se hacían realidad con la victoria de los patriotas en la Batalla Naval del Lago de Maracaibo" (English: "Ana María died, historians affirm that she was bathed in the waters of Lake Maracaibo and suffered an epileptic attack, the product of phyiscal trauma as a result of her torture [...] she was present as her dreams of freedom came true with the victory of the Venezuelans at the Battle of Lake Maracaibo")
  • Reviewed: (3rd nom)
  • Comment: I don't have strong feelings about keeping the image with the hook, though it does establish her legacy.

  • Article was new enough when nominated. No close paraphrasing was found. The hook is interesting, and while it's spread over at least two separate sections of the article, they're both cited inline. Spanish-language sources accepted in good faith. No QPQ is needed for this nomination. Only one issue: although most of the article is sourced, the "Canción de primavera" section isn't. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 10:11, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
    • Hi, I can't find a good source for the hymn, simply copied the text over from the Spanish Wikipedia page. This suggests that it is true, but is common knowledge locally and not recorded with publicly accessible sources. Kingsif (talk) 23:17, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
@Kingsif: If that's the case it might be better to simply remove it from the article and perhaps add a link to the lyrics in the External Links section. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 12:26, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5: I’ve done that, using a blog as source for the lyrics within a note. If that’s all good, do you think this could be a special event hook, to go on DYK on October 17th to mark the 190th anniversary of her death - especially since it is about her death? It would really just need “190 years ago today” after the that at the start. Kingsif (talk) 12:49, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. This should be good to go now that that concern has been addressed; special date request is also approved, and I'll move this to the special occasions area once this is moved to the approved page. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 10:00, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
  • If we add the words "190 years ago today" for a special occasion request for October 17, the hook is too unwieldy, with three separate facts. Can we make it sharper? Perhaps say something about her life, not just her death? Yoninah (talk) 23:35, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
  • @Kingsif: thank you for the alts. I can't find the first one explicitly stated in the article (the article says her quote was admitted as evidence, not that she testified that way), but I have listed the second alt at WT:DYK:
  • ALT1: ... that Ana María Campos (monument pictured), who died 190 years ago today, was one of the heroines of the Venezuelan War of Independence?
  • Foreign-language hook ref AGF and cited inline. Rest of review per Narutolovehinata5. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 14:33, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
