Angels Camp Museum[edit]

Created/expanded by User:SarahStierch (talk). Self nom at 00:06, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

  • FN 1 is inaccessible, and FN 2 cannot be accessed in my area because my zip code is out of the website's acceptable territory. FN 3 says that there are 200 miles of tunnels; is it "200 tunnels" or "200 miles of tunnels"? Still checking FN 4. Nevertheless, passes the 1,500 minimum requirement. --George Ho (talk) 23:07, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  • By the way, FN 2 is viewable somehow, especially with the Find tool from a browser. --George Ho (talk) 23:08, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  • FN 3 and FN 4 are accessible and verify information. FN 2 verifies information, as well, as I can see it. Still awaiting FN 1.... As for the hook, I wonder if more clarification is needed: Mother lode is located in some areas of California and Nevada, according to website itself. If not, maybe "ALT #" is needed? How about one of collections located at the museum, a documentary about a frog contest, or a free admission of Gold Rush Day? --George Ho (talk) 23:24, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
  • Author had no notification on her talk page about this, so I put a notice there today. Maile66 (talk) 18:33, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm actually getting ready to step on an airplane (in like...five minutes) so I'm probably not going to fiddle with this anytime soon :( I'm happy with any type of "fun fact" from it. I feel bad making others do the work, but, if people deem it worthy, mentioning the tunnels, the gold rush day...or the frogs (!) would be a-okay with me. Thanks guys. I have made some corrections, so anybody else can feel free to review this fully. --George Ho (talk) 20:30, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

  • I feel that this article is too short as it stands. I know that it meets the 1500 character minimum, but the lead is repeated (more or less verbatim) in the rest of the article and without that it would be about 1350 characters. Mikenorton (talk) 21:28, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
  • I took a look at the article, assuming that it was time for the orange X, but I find myself disagreeing with your assessment. If anything, there's information in the lead that ought to be in the body of the article but isn't, such as "three acres" and "four buildings". The only parts of the lead that struck me as repetitive were the last half of the third sentence and last half of the fourth. The body of the article is 1400 characters now after a few more edits, and the lead is 390. Even if you count only half the lead, that's still 1595 characters, which strikes me as enough. I agree that articles over 1500 characters are not necessarily appropriate for DYK, but I think this one probably is. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:41, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
  • After taking into account the second opinion above, I think that the length is just OK and the date and sourcing are fine. I've checked sources 2-4 and found no copyvio/plagiarism issues, AGF for source 1. However, I agree that although the hook is supported by source 2, it might be confusing. I suggest:
ALT1 ... that Angels Camp Museum sits on land located above two veins of the California Mother Lode? Mikenorton (talk) 21:37, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
  • Based on the above, I'm approving the ALT1 hook, with the minor change of "California" instead of "Californian". I've added an inline citation for source 3 (which [also?] contains the lode vein info) after the sentence in the article so it's unambiguously sourced. And, due to the above caveat, I've struck the original hook; ALT1 gives the same info, only more clearly. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:13, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
