Arlene Hiss

[edit]

Created by Rhino Ryan (talk) and The Bushranger (talk). Nominated by The Bushranger (talk) at 23:03, 11 November 2017 (UTC).

  • @Rhino Ryan and The Bushranger: I have a concern over the wording of the hook. When I first read it, I thought the Champ Car drivers threatened a boycott of the race series because she was a woman allowed to compete. On inspecting the the article and source, it was because she was viewed as "dangerously slow". This likely needs to be reworded in order to avoid the confusion. xplicit 13:41, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
  • Explicit Given the time, it was a little bit of both. I figured the ambiguity in this case was a good thing, but I've added two words to the hook though, is that better? - The Bushranger One ping only 22:51, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
  • Yes, I think this best reflects what the source states. So, now:
  • The article is new enough (created November 8 UTC)
  • It is long enough (prose exceeds 3,000 characters)
  • It is within policy (neutral, cites sources, and no plagiarism was detected)
  • The hook is under 200 characters
  • Is it interesting and now accurate
  • The nominator (The Bushranger) with more than five DYK submissions reviewed another candidate
  • Looks good to go. xplicit 06:06, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
  • The hook is rather negative for a BLP. I think you should come up with something else. Yoninah (talk) 22:55, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah:This is a case of "this is what she is most notable for". That said, if you think ALT1 below would be better, then that's cool (and meaningful for anyone who knows orney ol' A.J.!). - The Bushranger One ping only 00:22, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
  • ALT1: ...that A. J. Foyt praised Arlene Hiss for "what a fine job [she'd] done" after racing against her?
  • Yes, thanks, that's much better. ALT1 hook ref verified and cited inline. Rest of review per Explicit. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 00:26, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
  • I don't see the fact that A.J.Foyt had raced against her mentioned in the article or source. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:26, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
  • To meet the DYK requirements, that fact needs to be included in the article, so I have added it there and replaced the tick here. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:06, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Sorry, I missed your change and have removed mine. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:58, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
