Bagrat II Bagratuni[edit]

Created by Cplakidas (talk). Self nominated at 13:32, 17 November 2014 (UTC).

  • The article is well-written and properly sourced. I just have one question regarding the title. Logically, if there was Bagrat II, there must've been Bagrat I. Since I'm hardly an expert on medieval Armenian history I looked up Bargat Bagratuni in Armenian sources. The first item I found is an encyclopedia article which lists the Armenian princes of the 7th-9th centuries and there's only one prince called "Bagrat Bagratuni" about whom this article is about. Should this article be renamed to "Bagrat Bagratuni"? --Երևանցի talk 23:01, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Hello! I wondered the same, since this particular Bagrat seems to be in about 99% of the occurrences of the name I've come across. The ordinal derives from usage in the French WP, where Bagrat Ier Bagratouni is mentioned as ruler of Sper in the 330s. The article is unsourced, and I don't know where it has its information from (I suspect either Toumanoff or Settipani), but the French WP has much more info on medieval Armenian articles than us, and I hesitate to dismiss it out of hand. If I find anything more concrete either for or against I will certainly make the appropriate changes. Constantine 12:37, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
  • This article has well over 6,000 characters. Was created on Nov. 14 & nominated on 17. Is well sourced. AGF on close paraphrasing and the two non-English sources. --Երևանցի talk 05:35, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
