Battle of Luang Namtha[edit]

Luang Namtha as seen from the northwest. This would be the point of view of anyone approaching from Muang Sing.

  • Comment: When the Royal Lao Army lost the Battle of Luang Namtha against half their number of enemy soldiers in 1962, it fled south in disarray. Some of the deserters did not stop until they had crossed into neighboring Thailand. It was a disastrous but all too typical performance by the fledgling Lao army, beginning 13 years of bloody futility.

Overall: Hook is not cited. Otherwise, I'm approving AGF on the sources, which I cannot access. --¿3family6 contribs 22:11, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

As memory serves, I found the original 160 km figure via Google maps. Searching my sources, I found a text reading 150 km. I substituted that in, and added the needed cite. And not to worry. I always write with the sources in my hands.Georgejdorner (talk) 16:35, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
All set. I knew that the hook was supported, but per DYK guidelines it needs to be directly cited.--¿3family6 contribs 18:26, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
