Bird Neighbors

[edit]

Illustration of a Red-winged Blackbird from Bird Neighbours

  • ... that Neltje Blanchan's 1897 book Bird Neighbors used photographs of stuffed birds (red-winged blackbird pictured) because contemporary cameras could not take good photographs of real ones?
  • Comment: The anonymous article expander posted a request for a DYK nom on the DYK talk page. Article is currently at AfD.

Created/expanded by 202.124.72.86 (talk). Nominated by Orlady (talk) at 18:44, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Article is big enough, expanded enough, expander changed IPs a few times though, so either we pick the latest or use a name nominated. Article is within policy with no plagiarism detected. Hook is interesting, confirmed by a reference, and reference confirms the facts. Image is public domain based on age and location of publication. We just have to await AFD rejection. The AFD closed as "Keep". --Orlady (talk) 17:16, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
And regarding who gets the credit for expanding the article, the IP that I credited is the one that the anon listed in the talk-page request. --Orlady (talk) 05:10, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
AfD closed as keep. Date and size check out OK. CP/CV appears alright, intriguing hook confirmed by references. Good to go. - The Bushranger One ping only 16:20, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
