Burka Avenger

[edit]

Created by Gobonobo (talk), User:Mar4d (talk). Nominated by Gobonobo (talk) at 19:40, 30 July 2013 (UTC).

  • Length, hook, source, date ok. But the copyvio report indicates that the character descriptions, as added by CrazyPakExplorer (talk · contribs), are largely plagiarized from the series website, http://www.burkaavenger.com/. An example: in the article, the main character is described as follows: "Separated from her parents at a young age, Jiya was adopted by a wise old Kabaddi Master, Kabaddi Jan. He took her under his wing and taught her the art of Takht Kabaddi, a new kind of fighting style where books and pens are primarily used as weapons in conjunction with a variety of karate moves." The character description at http://www.burkaavenger.com/about is word-for-word identical. I have indefinitely blocked CrazyPakExplorer because their contributions consist only of copyright violations, and removed the character section. The nominator should check for and remove any remaining copyvio, and then request a new review.  Sandstein  20:18, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Good catch. I just finished the QPQ and will address the copyvio additions shortly. Gobōnobō + c 20:53, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks to Sandstein for removing the copyvio. I've added a reception section and think this is ready for another review. Gobōnobō + c 19:40, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
  • Copyvio problems have been addressed, I can't see any other problems with the article. However, the hook needs to relate to the real world in some way – perhaps by mentioning the burka controversy? DoctorKubla (talk) 20:28, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Hooks have to relate to the real world? Would it help to use the word 'fictional' somewhere in there? Gobōnobō + c 22:12, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
  • ALT1:... that the Pakistani animated series Burka Avenger features a superhero who disguises herself in a burqa?
No, I mean the hook fact has to be something to do with the real world. So, something like:
  • ALT2: ... that the Pakistani animated series Burka Avenger has been criticised for its "glorification of burqa culture"?
Although if you want to use this hook, you'll have to add that quote (from this source) to the article. DoctorKubla (talk) 18:35, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
  • Striking non-real-world hooks (the rule on this is in WP:DYK#The hook under "Content": "If the subject is a work of fiction or a fictional character, the hook must involve the real world in some way.") BlueMoonset (talk) 22:39, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Okay. Here are some more hooks. I want to be careful about the wording of any hook that mentions the burqa "controversy". The initial AP story was the basis for almost all of the other articles that first addressed the series, and (in my opinion) it suffered from bias in overemphasising the burqa as an issue for the series and only engaging the topic from a Western perspective. I'm reluctant to endorse a hook that uses "glorification of burqa culture" as I find that language to imply a POV that is undue. I've attempted to devise a hook that approaches the subject in a neutral manner and would appreciate any suggestions or tweaks. Gobōnobō + c 23:02, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Those hooks are all good; the promoter can take their pick. DoctorKubla (talk) 00:54, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
