Cecil Vandepeer Clarke

[edit]

Clarke wearing a prototype limpet mine.

  • ... that Cecil Vandepeer Clarke (pictured) invented military equipment including a limpet mine, an underground tank, a spigot gun, an exploding trouser sausage, and a rocket propelled bridge?

Created/expanded by Gaius Cornelius (talk). Self nom at 14:44, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

  • I don't think saving this for Remembrance day is a good idea, the tone of the hook is a little comical and even flippant. Gaius Cornelius (talk) 15:17, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
  • QPQ done. All images tagged with acceptable licenses for main page use. Image in hook found in article. "Article moved from User:Gaius Cornelius/Cecil Vandepeer Clarke on September 17, 2012" so article is new enough and long enough at time of nomination. Hook is properly formatted. Article is neutral enough. "work on a radical and ambitious project" might read as POV to some but this is supported by the text that these things were precisely that. Hooked text supported by article.
  • Offline sources support hooked and rest of text. Offline sources were not plagiarised to write the article.
  • Article is not fully supported by sources. Fact tags to make this easier to find. --LauraHale (talk) 21:28, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
  • A small number of citation needed tags have been added. I will get round to sorting them out later, but in the meantime I don't think any of these relate to the hook and should not be essential to a DYK entry. Gaius Cornelius (talk) 15:17, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
  • I really hope this can be sorted out soon: this is a good article, and I'd really like it to be promoted. However, according to the DYK rules, articles with dispute templates, which includes the "citation needed" templates, are "likely to be rejected" for DYK. In this case, since they've been included and pointed out, the templates need to be properly resolved before this nomination can be approved. I would also like to see Clarke's birth and death dates and age at death be mutually consistent in the article's body, intro, and infobox. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:20, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
  • I think all the concerns have now been addressed. Gaius Cornelius (talk) 00:10, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
I have not given it a full read, but there is no [citation needed] tags and the dates are fixed. -So passing it. -Redtigerxyz Talk 18:07, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
The idea that an article that has never been approved can be passed and promoted by someone who has never even read the entire article is completely against DYK policy. Even approving it should not be done, and articles should never be approved and promoted by the same person. Can we please have a new, complete review, or a follow-up review by Laura, to confirm that this article does meet all the DYK criteria? Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:20, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

Concerns I had appear to have been addressed. Didn't see this earlier. --LauraHale (talk) 20:34, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
