Chamarel

[edit]
Coloured Earths
Coloured Earths
  • ... that a notable phenomenon in Chamarel is the Coloured Earths (pictured) with colour variations noticed due to cooling of molten rock said to be lava of 3.5 to 7 million years age?

5x expanded by Nvvchar (talk). Self-nominated at 04:12, 14 November 2015 (UTC).

I am reviewing this nom per QPQ for British Committee of the Indian National Congress

  • Expanded 5x between 31st Oct and 17th Dec, Definitely long enough, cited in-line, interesting article on local Geography in Mauritium, Hook caught my attention, but is 231 characters long (I am not sure how strict to be with this, it actually is an interesting hook, already QPQd.

  • @Rueben lys: the hook is only 168 characters long, not including "(pictured)". If one point of your review is not satisfactory, you should not give it an approval tick, but contact the nominator about it. Your review neglected to check neutrality and close paraphrasing. (You can use the Dup Detector feature in the DYK toolbox to the right of the hook.) Also, one tick is enough for a review. It should also be noted that the image is freely licensed. • I just noticed that your 5x expansion check mistakenly put the end of the expansion at December 17 instead of the actual date of November 17. Yoninah (talk) 21:50, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
  • @Rueben lys: The article was expanded by me from 11th November and posted on DYK on 14th November 2015. It is more than 5x expansion of the prose part of the text. The hook has only 168 ch excluding "(pictured)" which is not to be counted. Img is freely licensed. The green tick has to be given only at the beginning of your review. You may like to revise your review duly noting Yoninah's other observations on neutrality and paraphrasing. Thanks.Nvvchar. 06:06, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

@Nvvchar: Thankyou Nvvchar. You have indeed expanded ~6x between 10th and 14th Nov. I was observing that the final version as of the 17th (which is within the guidelines) is indeed 5x (or more) expanded as it is standing. The hook is 169 characters long, I am not sure why this was being reported as 230. Nonetheless, that is entirely satisfactory. I have noted that the article is referenced, as you note the image is freely licensed. It is cited in-line, verifiable (it is verifiable) as I have already noted. My review concludes it is NPOV in geography terms as much as I can tell from a non-expert reviewing a short wikipedia article taking into account the talk page being clear of any mention of controversy and no tags being present in the article itself. The article is not closely paraphrased. It is entirely satisfactoryrueben_lys (talk · contribs) 10:25, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

  • Yoninah. May plese see for restoring the green tick. Thanks.Nvvchar. 16:52, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
  • Yoninah Is there a still problem with this hook or review? If so pl let me know so that I can address the issue. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nvvchar (talkcontribs) 13:17, 8 December 2015‎ (UTC)
  • Hi, sorry, I was busy with other articles. @Ashorocetus: there is no reason to say "AGF" when all the hook facts are clearly verifiable in the online sources. Rueben_lys' review is thorough enough, and only lacked the green tick. But I would like to note that the hook could be improved from a grammatical perspective, e.g.:
  • ALT1: ... that the Seven Coloured Earths (pictured) in Chamarel are the result of the cooling of molten rock from 3.5 to 7 million years ago? Yoninah (talk) 18:28, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
  • ALT2: ... that the Seven Coloured Earths (pictured) in Chamarel are the result of the cooling of molten rock that is 3.5 to 7 million years old? Yoninah (talk) 23:09, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
  • I was assuming good faith on the part of you guys who reviewed it because I didn't do a thorough check of the article, but I guess that wasn't all that clear. Anyhow either of those new alts would work I think. Ashorocetus (talk | contribs) 23:30, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
  • Yoninah Thanks for the alternate hook suggestions. Both hooks are acceptable.Nvvchar. 06:52, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
