The article is new enough, long enough, stable, and neutrally written. Most of it is sourced, and the hook fact is cited inline and verified. No images so no comment on that. Normally, I wouldn't be marking for closure a nomination relatively so soon after my review. However, the nominator has not edited since the day of the nomination (almost a month ago), and the sourcing issues require either him or another editor who is well-versed in football to fix. Taking into account the length of inactivity and the editor's editing pattern, it seems unlikely that they will be able to return soon enough for the problems to be addressed promptly. New hook contradicts the first one, though is basically the same, is almost too long (184 characters), and has too much info in it (3 hooks worth of facts). As well as being a bit plain. The referencing issue has been fixed (if just for deleting the Honours section). I'll propose an ALT hook for you to consider

Here's a famous footballer, he used to be a principal (without any suggestion of resignation or retirement) is quite interesting because most football players do nothing else. Your suggestion - that a football player, of all things, played football is just not interesting: the other players' prominence is irrelevant unless they're world famous, but people who aren't fans won't know them. - Most football players do nothing else? Actually many Gaelic footballers are or have been principals. Examples include Colm O'Rourke Source Pat Spillane Source Éamonn Fitzmaurice Source Maurice Fitzgerald Source. All of these are much more high-profile than McGeever and won more during their playing careers. They have a total of 17 All-Ireland titles between them (the highest trophy available in their sport). Most players would be lucky to get one. Therefore it seems to me that it is your suggestion that is plain. Whereas I can think of no Gaelic footballer who has trained with two FIFA World Cup winners. - You're an expert in Gaelic football, most people don't know it exists. They'll see "football" and assume it's either American or association, even with the word Gaelic there they'll assume it works in the same way (few players have other careers). In any case, being an association football player it's not that surprising he has trained with players who have played in the World Cup. Look at this from an outside perspective, a hook saying, for example "this lacrosse player once trained with these other lacrosse players" seem in any way interesting?
