Claudio Gomes[edit]

  • ... that Manchester City player Claudio Gomes has been nicknamed "N'Golo Kanté" for his similarity to another French midfielder? Source: "Gomes is nicknamed "N'Golo Kanté" by his teammates, who liken him to the French international midfielder for his efforts in recovering the ball.[2]" Le Populaire: "« Mes coéquipiers m'ont surnommé Ngolo Kanté car je ne suis pas avare d'efforts. J'ai une grande capacité à récupérer des ballons ». "My teammates nicknamed me N'Golo Kanté because I'm not short of effort. I have a great capacity for recovering balls"

  • I think your note about his appearance for City for 1 second is far more interesting than the nickname, something like "... that Manchester City player Claudio Gomes has represented his team for a total of one second?" (assuming he doesn't get to play between now and hook running...! The rest of the DYK criteria are met adequately, so let's just talk about the hook. Hi The Rambling Man, at the time that I made this DYK, the only sources that mentioned him playing for one second were unreliable ones like the Sport Bible I linked. It is now sourced in the article, from Yahoo. Gomes is, let's be honest, unlikely to play for City's first team soon, but the youth are playing in the EFL Trophy in the coming days. Is that a professional appearance?
Why not a timeless one like "... that Manchester City player Claudio Gomes won a trophy at Wembley Stadium one second into his professional career?"
Unless people split hair at his professional career starting with his contract, that's quite a hook. Harambe Walks (talk) 20:00, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
I like it a lot, you could mitigate the splitting hairs by saying "one second into his professional debut"... The Rambling Man (talk) 20:04, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
Got it, we'll go for that Harambe Walks (talk) 20:10, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
Could also link the "trophy" to the relevant Community Shield, but that's optional, I'll leave it to you. It's good to go. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:12, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
