  • Article is new enough, long enough, well referenced, and neutral. Hook is verified with reliable source. QPQ is done. Image is freely licensed. One minor paraphrasing issue needs to be fixed: "40 million people have been cured of a variety of ailments by taking the potion on prescription" is too close to the source. -Zanhe (talk) 19:47, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
  • A good spot, thanks. Rewritten as "According to a government report, more than 40 million people have been cured of "a variety of ailments" after being prescribed the potion." I don't want to deviate too much from what the source says as it is a little vague. Is that sufficient a change? If not I'll take another look. violet/riga [talk] 21:39, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Looks good now. Good to go. -Zanhe (talk) 05:48, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
  • I came to promote this, but while it's a very interesting article, the article seems to give overwhelming weight towards China. Could some information be included here about cockroach farming in other countries? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:32, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
    • I've done what I can to balance the article. It is very much a Chinese industry at the moment so sources away from that region are difficult to find. violet/riga [talk] 18:43, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
Noted. Since there's nothing that can be done on that end, I'm restoring Zanhe's tick. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 03:05, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
  • I'm concerned that much of the article is closely paraphrased from its sources. Compare for example "seeing it as a cheap source of protein as well as the cellulose-like substance on their wings" with "value the insects as a cheap source of protein as well as for the cellulose-like substance on their wings", or "Cockroaches, like all insects, are not susceptible to the same diseases as mammals or poultry are, and are notoriously hardy" and "Notoriously hearty, roaches aren't susceptible to the same diseases as farm animals". Nikkimaria (talk) 12:43, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
    • @Nikkimaria: this has been attended to. violet/riga [talk] 14:07, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
      • Definitely better, still a bit of work needed. Compare for example "has widely expanded gene families related to taste and smell, to detoxification and to immunity" with "having expanded gene families related to detoxification and immunity". Nikkimaria (talk) 15:37, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
        • Thank you for your diligence. I have attended to this. violet/riga [talk] 11:22, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
  • Looking for a second opinion on the changes. Nikkimaria (talk) 11:51, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
  • I have removed the tag because as far as I can see there is no longer a problem, although it is difficult to be certain with close paraphrasing. Could I suggest a new hook
  • ALT2 ... that over a million cockroaches escaped when an unregulated cockroach farm building was bulldozed while the owner was at lunch? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 6:41, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
  • I reworded a few spots on the page that still were pretty close, which Nikkimaria mentioned. I added an in-line citation for the six billion figure (all potential DYK hook information in an article should have a citation immediately following it). I approve all three hooks. I think ALT2 is the funniest. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 17:02, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
  • I'm not fully in favour of that because it might discourage people from adding things about developments outside of China. I think that it would be better at this more general name but I'm willing to concede that if it satisfies people here. Incidentally I support ALT2 as a good potential hook. violet/riga [talk] 22:25, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
  • @Violetriga: how long will we have to wait to broaden the scope of this article? It can't be put up on the main page as a nation-centric article with a generic name in the hope that some reader will expand it. Per Rule D7, the article should appear to be complete before promotion. I suggest moving the page now to Cockroach farming in China, and when you have a broader scope, rename it. We could pipe the link in the hook this way:
  • ALT2a: ... that over a million cockroaches escaped when an unregulated building on a cockroach farm in China was bulldozed while the owner was at lunch? Yoninah (talk) 22:58, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: I don't really agree with you here. The article is about cockroach farming in general. That the farming is largely done in China is not relevant to the title but just reflects where the main demand lies. In any event, this is not really a DYK issue - there is nothing in the rules about an article being at the best title. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:58, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
  • @Cwmhiraeth: I haven't been talking about improving the title, but improving the article. If it's about cockroach farming in general, it should include more examples from countries other than China to meet Rule D7. As it is, most of the sections introduce a new aspect and then talk about cockroach farming in China. Yoninah (talk) 10:23, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: I don't think rule D7 is relevant here because the article is not incomplete. I did some searching but did not find anything about commercial farming of cockroaches in countries other than China. Let's suppose the "Space poppy" is cultivated only on Mars (It's the red planet after all!). The article concerned could be called "Space poppy farming" but would not need to be called "Space poppy farming on Mars". Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:35, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Agree with Cwmhiraeth. My own searches while reviewing the nomination indicate that cockroach farming is largely China-centric, and the article reflects that reality. I don't think it needs to be renamed. -Zanhe (talk) 18:42, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Accepted. Restoring tick for ALT2 per Rachel Help's review. Yoninah (talk) 20:02, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
