Dickinson Bishop

[edit]
  • ... that Titanic survivor Dickinson Bishop was accused of dressing as a woman to secure a place for himself into a lifeboat?

Created by Japanesehelper (talk). Self nominated at 03:38, 7 January 2014 (UTC).

  • Non free image removed per WP:NFCC. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:07, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Unfortunately, there are substantial copyvio concerns. Most of the article is based on Ref #2, and is copied almost word for word for the article. The sentence that is the source of the hook is worded very closely to Ref #5, which is actually used as an inline citation for his death date. — Maile (talk) 16:21, 8 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Copyvio concerns warrant a more serious icon. These need to be addressed very soon, or the copied material needs to be stripped from the article. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:17, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
  • I have struck the original hook due to it being nearly identical to the noted source, and cut out copyvio and closely paraphrased text from the article as best I could (and also some bits that weren't supported by the cited source). Over 1000 characters had to be removed, and what remains is below DYK's 1500 prose characters. It should certainly be possible for the issues addressed and the article to be improved within a week from now, but great care needs to be taken to properly cite where material came from, and to avoid copyvio and close paraphrasing. Looking forward to hearing from the creator by then. Note to The C of E: since this is Japanesehelper's first DYK nomination, as best I can tell, there is no QPQ requirement, even though there were issues with the review that was done. The article has been expanded to 3298 characters by User:We hope, and I can't see any copyvio in the current revision. All other criteria are met (new enough, well sourced, neutral). However, a new hook is needed, so here's a reworded version of the original:

  • ALT1: ... that Titanic survivor Dickinson Bishop was rumored to have gained access to a lifeboat by dressing in women's clothing?

This will have to be approved by an independent reviewer. DoctorKubla (talk) 22:04, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

I'm accepting DoctorKubla's overall check of the article compliance for DYK; the ALT1 hook is 119 characters and supported by three refs. Although the hook is slightly negative to a (deceased) BLP, it is well supported and there are no other apparent BLP concerns. SagaciousPhil - Chat 10:32, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
