Elis (horse)[edit]

Elis, painting by John Frederick Herring Snr

  • ... that less than two weeks after Elis (pictured) won the 1835 St. Leger Stakes, 21 horses were withdrawn from the colt's next scheduled race?
  • Comment: Not a self-nom. --PFHLai (talk) 10:59, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Article - created new on 13 April, so new enough; 7740 characters of readable prose, so long enough; neutral; no copy vios detected using earwig; assessed as C class, so not a stub.
  • Hook - within length criteria at 140 characters; correctly formatted; correctly cited/supported by ref #17 in last paragraph of '1836 season' section; and interesting.
  • Not a self nomination, so no QPQ required; image is PD.

Just a couple of quick queries:

  • I may be being dim but I'm reading the ref as stating 21 horses frightened out of the field, not 22?
  • To comply with DYK rules, the second paragraph of the background requires a citation.
  • Minor suggestion - would the hook read better as 'less than' rather than 'within'? (I'm not really treating this as an ALT as it's more a grammatical thing) SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:29, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Added ref from print source. Hook should say 21 not 22. Should read either "within... of" or "less than... after". Tigerboy1966  18:02, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for sorting these so quickly. I've corrected the grammar in the hook - it is still 140 characters; all paragraphs now have at least one inline citations and this nomination complies with all DYK requirements. SagaciousPhil - Chat 19:13, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
