Elizabeth Bartlet (musicologist)

[edit]

Created by Voceditenore (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 13:24, 10 May 2019 (UTC).

  • The full review will be to follow, but I wonder if a better hook can be proposed here: she seems to have had quite an interesting career that consisted of multiple interests, so focusing only on the Guillaume Tell thing might not give her career justice. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 13:56, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
Isn't that interesting? I focused on the one peak especially with you in mind. Did you read the NYT review about HOW important that whas? Asking Voce. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:26, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
I don't know but it doesn't seem to appeal much to non-opera fans. With that said, I will defer further comments pending Voce's thoughts on this. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:06, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
Hoping that she will reply, I believe that Rossini is a name even people who don't know much about opera will recognise, + I like links to that FA. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:55, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
qpq done now --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:09, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

I believe that it would be a good companion to Rossini being TFA on 2 June. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:24, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

  • Hmmm, Narutolovehinata5 and Gerda. In my view the article is supposed to do her career justice, not a hook. Trying to cram it all into a hook can be both boring an counter-productive. Here's a possible alternative:
  • Alt1 ... that musicologist Elizabeth Bartlet's PhD thesis on Étienne Méhul "earned itself the iconic status reserved for the few doctoral theses that are destined to change their chosen field"?
However, I really don't care what hook is used and can't spend a lot of time on this. I only wrote the article. I didn't nominate it for DYK. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 15:50, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
I think ALT1 has potential actually, though I think it could be rephrased slightly. What about something like: Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:26, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
ALT1a ... that musicologist Elizabeth Bartlet's PhD thesis on Étienne Méhul was described as having earned an "iconic status reserved for the few doctoral theses that are destined to change their chosen field"?
Narutolovehinata5, your wording is better and comes in under the wire at 200 characters . Best, Voceditenore (talk) 15:11, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to make it shorter (I have a suggestion below, but I don't know how accurate it is), so if that can't work, a new direction may be needed. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:04, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
ALT1b ... that musicologist Elizabeth Bartlet's PhD thesis on Étienne Méhul was praised as being one "destined to change their chosen field"?
I don't mind moving the focus from her work resulting in performances noticed worldwide to mere academics, but the "their" in the shortened version is hard to understand. I actually find the long wording also hard to grasp. "iconic", "destined" - I see ERRORS around the corner. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:58, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Narutolovehinata5, ALT1b is a bit clumsy and needs the context of the longer sentence. Plus, although the writer was indeed praising her and her thesis to the skies in that article, saying "praised" in WP's voice is bound to raise hackles with the DYK police. How about simply removing "musicologist" from ALT1a. That would bring it under 200. Let the reader find out that she's a musicologist when they read the article, if they haven't already guessed. I actually prefer more cryptic hooks. Also in ALT1a, it should be "the iconic status" and the "the" should be inside the quote. So...
ALT1c ... that Elizabeth Bartlet's PhD thesis on Étienne Méhul was described as having earned "the iconic status reserved for the few doctoral theses that are destined to change their chosen field"?
It's 188 characters. Voceditenore (talk) 08:03, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, I suppose it's a good hook. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:03, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
  • I think there is now agreement here that ALT1c will be the hook going forward. Just add the footnote to the sentence that discusses it (as opposed to the end of the paragraph) and this should be good to go. Narutolovehinata5 tc csdnew 23:52, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
Pinging Narutolovehinata5, I've now moved the ref to the end of the quote as requested. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 05:29, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Okay, I think we're all set here. I'm not sure if the special occasion request can still be accommodated at this point though as the Prep for June 2 is already on Queue and already has the Ruth hook. Article and ALT1c meet requirements and a QPQ has been done. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 12:19, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Narutolovehinata5, the June 2nd request is no longer relevant. The new, approved hook doesn't mention Rossini (the June 2nd TFA). Best, Voceditenore (talk) 12:06, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
  • Voceditenore and Gerda Arendt Came here to promote. The final sentence of the article forms its own paragraph and doesn't have a citation. Can we find a citation for this? --valereee (talk) 16:54, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Fixed now, thanks Voceditenore! Promoting. --valereee (talk) 17:11, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
