Ellie Miles[edit]

  • ... that Ellie Miles was captain of her youth rugby club and coach of her school team? Source: Highbeam

  • Hi The C of E , review follows: Article moved to mainspace 11 November; I get it to be just under qualifying length (1496 characters) when counted per rule A2; Article is fully cited to reliable sources; hook is cited inline; I am reasonably neutral on the hook, I expect that most professional sportspeople were captains of some sort of school or youth team but to be coach as well may be unusual enough; QPQ done - Dumelow (talk) 18:10, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
OK, looks good to go now - Dumelow (talk) 19:57, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
  • Sorry, but "Did you know X = Y?" is not very hooky. Who is she? Why is she notable? Yoninah (talk) 23:45, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that Ellie Miles played for England South East in girls sevens while coaching rugby at her school?
  • ALT2 ... that Ellie Miles played for Kent, London and South East and England South East at rugby sevens?
I cannot access the Kent and Sussex Courier full article but would be happy to AGF it. The "while coaching rugby at her school" part isn't directly stated in the article but is probably implied by the "Later in that year..." sentence. I haven't ticked as I actually find the original hook more interesting than the alts. I am interested to hear from Yoninah on this - Dumelow (talk) 18:34, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
@Dumelow: sorry, but I don't find any of the hooks interesting. Yoninah (talk) 19:55, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
@Dumelow: It is your privilege as initial reviewer to decide if you believe it is interesting, I do believe that it is and you did agree with that with the initial review. I believe there is no reason why this cannot be promoted. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 17:51, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
If one of the people who regularly build prep sets say that the hooks are not interesting, and supersede a tick because they can't promote the nomination without sufficiently interesting hooks, then it isn't helpful to insist that what's there is good enough. None of the three hooks struck me as at all interesting (ALT2's "rugby sevens" is particularly opaque to those who don't know rugby). Was she the only coach/player-coach for the team while in school? If she's 18 now, how old was she at the time? It looks like her RFC started a coaching program for schools back in 2012 according to the club's Wikipedia article; that may or may not lend itself to a possible hook. • ALT3 ... that Ellie Miles was a rugby union coach at Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School before playing for Harlequins Ladies?
  • ALT4 ... that Ellie Miles captained Tunbridge Wells RFC's under-18 girls team after her father had captained and coached the men's team?
@Yoninah: How are those? My personal preference would be ALT4. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 16:36, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Yes, thank you, ALT4 is much hookier. Hook refs verified and cited inline. Rest of review per Dumelow. ALT4 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 23:39, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
