General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
  • Cited: Yes - Offline/paywalled citation accepted in good faith
  • Interesting: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: This was interesting. While not required for the DYK, the article could use a good copyedit to standardize the English. I recommend asking at the Guild. Regardless of that, it is still understandable and I see no issues with it being approved for the main page. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 03:56, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

  • @Nihonjoe: an article that needs "a good copyedit" should not be featured on the main page until it gets one. The very first line begins "Footsteps is the third novel novel in the Buru Quartet". @HaEr48: please let us know when the copyedit is complete. Yoninah (talk) 23:15, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
  • It's not my job to do a copyedit on every DYK I review, and nothing in any of the rules says the article has to be in perfect English. My comments were merely stating that the article was not using completely standard English (US or UK), but that it was still understandable (that is the important part). DYK articles do not need to be Good Articles or anything else of exceptional quality. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 06:05, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
  • @Nihonjoe and Yoninah: read through the article again and made some copyedits, including fixing the line Yoninah called out. The Guild is not a good option because I already have 3 outstanding requests (maximum allowed) and it's usually backlogged for a month or so. Please take a look, and let me know if it needs further adjustments. HaEr48 (talk) 15:38, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
  • @HaEr48: thank you for your work. I went ahead and tidied up some typos and also put the synopsis into present tense. The article looks very good now. If you could find a fair-use image of the book cover, it would enhance the infobox. I think the first hook is hookiest, but I would suggest writing it this way:
  • ALT2: ... that Indonesian political prisoner Pramoedya Ananta Toer researched the third novel of his tetralogy, Footsteps, from memory and composed it through oral narration to his fellow inmates? Yoninah (talk) 22:13, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks, Yoninah really appreciate the copyedit, and I agree that it's much better now. I prefer the original hook, because ALT2 is too long (I think I'd lose interest before I finish reading the sentence), and becuase I suspect/think the statement is true for the rest of the book in the tetralogy (ALT2 implies that it is only the case for the third installment). Or we can also do:
  • ALT3: ... that Indonesian political prisoner Pramoedya Ananta Toer researched his historical novel Footsteps from memory and composed it through oral narration to his fellow inmates? HaEr48 (talk) 22:50, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Yes, let's go with ALT3. Restoring tick per Nihonjoe's review. Yoninah (talk) 23:14, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
