Hüseyin Yıldırım[edit]

  • ... that the Cold War-era spy Hüseyin Yıldırım, sentenced to life without parole in the United States, was later pardoned and secretly extradited to Turkey, where he stayed only one day in prison?

Created by CeeGee (talk). Self nominated at 19:58, 5 March 2014 (UTC).

@Yoninah! Good question. I decided to nominate the article Metris Prison a little bit later. However, I am open to any merge if possible at this stage. Appreciate your final approval. --CeeGee 18:43, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Since the only mention of Hüseyin Yıldırım on the Metris Prison page referred to serving only one day in the prison, and since your message on the other nomination seemed to indicate that you didn't want to go that route, I approved the ALT1 for Template:Did you know nominations/Metris Prison. Now this nomination should be reviewed on its own merits. Yoninah (talk) 21:36, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
  • I just edited the page for grammar. I'd like to note that footnote 1 is not a reliable source and should be removed from the page. The other refs with established newspapers look good. It will take me a little time to go through everything... Yoninah (talk) 23:35, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
  • I noticed you removed the unreliable ref, thanks. But you left all the information you got from that ref, which is now "unsourced" or, at worst, "original research". You should either delete it or find a better source.
  • I started going through the article and found a lot of close paraphrasing. You aren't allowed to copy whole phrases or major parts of sentences from the source; either put them in quotes or, better yet, rewrite them in your own words. I got as far as footnote 5. Would you mind looking over the rest of the refs and either rewriting in your own words, or putting in quotes, the material you are quoting directly from the source? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:24, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
  • I did some rewordings, and hope the article is clean now. Appreciate a recheck from you and approval if applicable. --CeeGee 12:22, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Thanks, it looks much better now. You certainly put together a lot of sources to verify this article. I just have one question about the third paragraph under Arrest. I'm not able to find the information stated here in any of the three sources (footnotes 15, 16, 20). Also, is there anything in English about his secret extradition, or is that information only known in Turkey? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:24, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
  1. I deleted the text portion, which became unsourced after the relevant reference was removed earlier due to "unreliable" issues. If I find reliable sources later for those sentences I will readd them.
  2. About the secret extradition: Ref #2 in Turkish "Geçen salı gizlice Türkiye'ye getirildiği belirtilen Yıldırım, iki gün önce İstanbul Bakırköy Cumhuriyet Savcılığı tarafından ifadesi alındıktan sonra Metris Cezaevi'ne konuldu." translates into (not the best) English like "Yildirim stated that secretly brought to Turkey last Tuesday, two days before the Bakırköy Public Prosecutor's Office after obtaining expressed by the Metris Prison." through Google Translator. --CeeGee 19:57, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
  • OK, thanks. Article is new enough, long enough, well-referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. Online hook ref verified and foreign-language hook ref AGF; both cited inline. QPQ done. Well done! Good to go. Yoninah (talk) 20:50, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
