  • Comment: ALT0 would be a very good quirky hook; ALT1 would be a good hook if promoted in the lead slot.

5x expanded by L293D (talk). Self-nominated at 20:24, 7 December 2018 (UTC).

  • Yeah, I like it too. L293D ( • ) 17:01, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
  • This article has been well more than 5x expanded from the last version that has not been wiped out for copyright violations (see discussion); since the appropriate version to compare the expansion with is not much bigger, byte-wise, than the last pre-copyvio version, I'll assume the 5x expansion has been met here. (Even if not, as a current good article nominee, it would likely qualify soon anyways.) Otherwise long enough, sourced, no apparent copyvios, QPQ done. L293D, I think the article should state more clearly—perhaps in the lead, or in "Construction and career"—that she sank 12 axis ships (and perhaps listing them), rather than forcing the reading to go through the entire article to collate the information. The lead is a bit deceptive as is; I would not think that Sportsman sank anywhere close to 12 ships after reading it. As an aside, why did she sink a French passenger ship? --Usernameunique (talk) 10:00, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
  • @Usernameunique: Sorry for the delay. I've added a table of ships sunk, and clarified why Sportsman sank a French ship. L293D ( • ) 12:53, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
  • @Usernameunique: are you planning to re-review this DYK, or should I mark this nom as needing a second review? L293D ( • ) 16:15, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the reminder, L293D. The table looks good. Perhaps I'm missing it, but where is the clarification you said you added about why Sportsman sank a French ship? --Usernameunique (talk) 18:43, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Usernameunique: in theory, Vichy France was neutral, but the General Bonaparte also carried axis men, tasked to see to that the ship wouldn't fall into British hands. According to this non-rs source, London warned the French that unless they removed the guard, the Royal Navy would attempt to sink the ship. Anyway, my in-article explanation is to add that the ship was "Vichy French" before the name of the ship. L293D ( • ) 03:25, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
Got it, thanks. All set now. --Usernameunique (talk) 04:16, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
