New enough, (barely) long enough at 1619 B, well written, and thoroughly sourced. Spot checking found no copyright issues. QPQ has been done. The picture is good enough (better at 100px than it is at full size!) and plausibly in public domain as claimed; however, we to know the photographer and photographer's lifetime to be sure, and that is not given. Without that, using the image may be problematic. The image caption says 1918 but the image filename says 1932; which is it? Additionally, each sentence documenting a claim in the hook needs to have a source on that exact sentence in the article, and I don't see this. In particular, the "71 papers" claim is on an unsourced sentence, and although the Pauly reaction is mentioned in the following sourced sentence it is not clear from the grammar of that sentence whether the reaction was published in one of the papers or only as a patent. And finally, there are some minor issues with the hook wording that need fixing. "Had published" is the wrong tense, as it implies that the publication happened before something else but there is no something else in the hook. And "the Pauly reaction" is not a paper, so it cannot be one of the things included in the 71 papers that Pauly published. —David Eppstein (talk) 05:55, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

- It looks as if the picture was taken in 1932, when he was aged 62 and received an honorary doctorate – but it is not very interesting even at 100px. I have added some material to the article, and suggest ALT2 below, directly supported by cites immediately after the sentence. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:41, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
