Hobby Horse Polo[edit]

  • ... that umpires in German Hobby Horse Polo force punitive sherries on non-galloping players?
  • ALT1: ... .. that there are two rule variants of Hobby Horse Polo, one of which imposes punitive sherries for fouls, the other requires neighing for a goal to count?

  • Sourced in the Mannheim rules and various press and TV reports

It's a very good hook :P but I can't confirm the origins section ~ R.T.G 22:16, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

  • I have reviewed the whole article in full accordance with DYK (this is about my tenth or more review, at least my eighth in the last few weeks), and it all checks out, however, the origins section is in German, and will also require a rewrite, because it is in German, and I believe the author has the same problem I had, Google translate just doesn't always work, and you're really trying to decipher this one in pictograms, unless, of course, you speak.. (is it dutch or German? I believe so..) ~ R.T.G 08:21, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
I quoted the original German on the talk page, Q&D translation in English. It has to look particullarly silly! is originally in the text. With regard to the review details, I solemly confirm, Hugh van Skyhawk is no fake, even if it sounds like. He contributes to Britannica.com btw. but I dunno what else you expect from me, Yoninah. Try TV report (ZDF) with some English content around 2.00 Serten (talk) 04:30, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Any facts in the hook must appear, properly sourced, in the article, not just on the talk page. I don't know where the translation came from (I don't know what "Q&D" means), but I corrected the spelling of "particularly" in the hook. Until that info is in the article, ALT1 is not valid. The Swiss changed the rules... I hope to get a recent foto as well. Serten (talk) 16:20, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
I am just starting the re-review, but before I even start, I am preferring the original hook the most.. However, though I can confirm the hook with Google translate, it is by deciphering:- "When hobbyhorse Polo applies: Always keep galloping, trotting does not apply. Attitude scores can not exist, because non-compliance can criminal Sherry by itself - and with each, the movements inelegant. Fouls of abstinent participants are consistently punished with bread drink." So, although I think this is a very humorous DYK, it will need someone fluent in German to review it properly, ~ R.T.G 11:56, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
According to WP:DYKR, as the editor has many edits, I am to assume good faith with the foreign language references and use this symbol. I could confirm most of it however, and it meets eligibility criterias, length, hook sourced, worth a DYK, etc.. ~ R.T.G 12:09, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
User_talk:Yngvadottir#Hobby_Horse_Polo has done it. Serten (talk) 13:34, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
I prefer the original hook. It is in good english, but I was mystified to what it meant until I searched Google for the definition of the word "sherries", so I thought it was very funny. It was the source that I couldn't read though to confirm stuff, but the hook itself I could confirm. ~ R.T.G 15:14, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Serten asked me to take a look at the article and I can confirm that Hugh van Skyhawk is a real person doing Asian studies. I have also taken a look at the sources required for the hook and both Spiegel Online and this club's own rules state that failures to gallop are sanctioned with an immediate punitive sherry (or other alcoholic drink). The problem I do see though is the article's timeline. DYK articles must have been written or expanded within the last seven days but as you can see from the revision history the Hobby Horse Polo article was started back in August and has not been expanded fivefold within the past week. So I'm afraid I don't see how this meets the DYK criteria. De728631 (talk) 13:49, 11 October 2014 (UTC) De728631 (talk) 14:14, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

[1] My draft moved on October 9th in the main space, insofar I see no problem.Serten (talk) 14:06, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Sorry I missed the move from the Draft space. In that regard the article IS new and should pass all DYK criteria. De728631 (talk) 14:14, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
If that is a confirmation - , ready ~ R.T.G 15:14, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
