Howard Backen[edit]

Created by Cluskillz (talk). Self-nominated at 22:59, 16 June 2016 (UTC).

  • The article is long enough. It is written from a neutral POV. There are inline citations; however, there is one sentence that needs a citation: "With the addition of Loren Kroeger, the firm is now known as Backen, Gillam & Kroeger Architects." Also, the information from the hook is not cited in the article. The first hook is too vague. It should talk about specific contributions. ALT1 is simply not cited. The information about Skywalker Ranch isn't even in the main article, it's in the infobox. Amgisseman(BYU) (talk) 20:48, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
  • I apologize for the delay. I added two citations for the sentence you mentioned. The first hook is in the intro prose and cited in citation 2. That is probably the biggest thing he's known for, though I understand your comment that it is too vague. I thought the hook should be something about his achievements in Napa, but I think any single commission may be lost on many (perhaps the best is his Napa Valley Reserve by Harlan Estate?) and I'm not sure of any objective measure for his influence. I'm not sure that quantity would be appropriate and the only place I know where that is referenced is in the firm's profile on its own website. Sorry about the alt hook; I started the page in my sandbox a while back and moved it to public recently. I remember planning to write in some sections under BAR, but my memories became fuzzy and I forgot that I never got to it. I inserted a few sentences under BAR Architects which includes a citation for his participation with the Skywalker Ranch project. It is, however, in a book. The mention isn't long; there is another book that I think goes into more detail with it, but I don't currently have access to it. Cluskillz (talk) 04:41, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
  • Cluskillz Thank you for adding the citations and the information about Skywalker Ranch. What about including the other projects in the hook as well? I'm still not sold on the original hook. What do you think about the proposed ALT2?
ALT2: ... that Howard Backen worked on projects with Sundance Institute, Skywalker Ranch, and the Disney Burbank Sound Studios as an architect? Amgisseman(BYU) (talk) 19:32, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
  • I was thinking about including the other two projects as well in alt1. It seems like a good grouping; all of them have to do with film studios. I just didn't want to pitch it until I heard what you had to say. I don't know how else to quantify the first hook while keeping the punch, so that ALT2 sounds good to me. I placed it in the form above. Hopefully I didn't bollocks it up like the first time I tried it. Thanks. Is there anything else I need to do? Cluskillz (talk) 22:32, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
  • Article looks good to go under ALT2! Good work! Amgisseman(BYU) (talk) 22:40, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
