  • ALT2:... that the Aghlabid emir Ibrahim II of Ifriqiya founded the palace-city of Raqqada, just outside of Kairouan?

  • Comment: Hook's language may seem outrageous, but the sources are even more unkind in their descriptions. It was a struggle to maintain neutral language in the article's content. ALT1 removes "homocidal madman", if that is found to be too strong. ALT2 if you really, really don't want to refer to any bloody stuff.

  • I don't think any of the suggested hooks do justice to the man. He died over a thousand years ago, and we don't need to be delicate. I think the following are much better hooks:
  • ALT3: ... that the Aghlabid emir Ibrahim II of Ifriqiya reportedly ordered the execution of 300 palace servants after finding a mislaid napkin at dinner?
  • ALT4: ... that after hearing accusations of a homosexual encounter among his bodyguards, the Aghlabid emir Ibrahim II of Ifriqiya reportedly smashed one's head in with a mace, and ordered the others to be burned alive?
  • ALT5: ... that the Aghlabid emir Ibrahim II of Ifriqiya reportedly held a reception for sixteen of his daughters who had escaped his execution order, greeted them, and then had them beheaded?
  • ALT6: ... that after the Aghlabid emir Ibrahim II of Ifriqiya's mother gave him two female slaves, he reportedly sent her a note of thanks, accompanied by the girls' severed heads on a tray?

Any of these can be taken. I am rather indifferent between them. ALT1, ALT3 and ALT6 seem to me perhaps the punchier ones. Walrasiad (talk) 16:55, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
