Jaffna Lagoon

  • ... that the Jaffna Lagoon in northern Sri Lanka is visited by large numbers of migratory water birds during the winter?

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - @Cwmhiraeth: Per WP:DYK#gen3, the hook should be "appearing no later than the end of the sentence(s) offering that fact." That is the only issue with this nomination.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: epicgenius (talk) 17:24, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

@Epicgenius: Actually this is difficult. There are a lot of interlinking lagoons near the northern tip of Sri Lanka. Jaffna Lagoon, or the Jaffna Lagoon complex as some sources call it, is not specifically mentioned in connection with migratory birds. Most of the sources quoted are either about the lagoons in general or about specific ones (with seemingly variable Sinhalese names), and although the lagoons are mostly linked, do not necessarily refer to Jaffna Lagoon. There are also problems with the dates of the sources, and what was true during the civil war is not necessarily true now. So I think I had just better withdraw this nomination. @Cwmhiraeth: Understandable. I'll mark this as a failed nomination then. epicgenius (talk) 18:34, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
