Jake Witt

  • ... that although he only had ten minutes to learn to play offensive lineman, college football player Jake Witt was able to successfully block against one of the "best defensive lines in the U.S."? Source: The Athletic ("As Jake Witt sat at his locker during halftime of a game against eventual Division II national champion Ferris State, he saw his coach coming toward him with a new jersey: No. 65. An offensive lineman's number. 'Oh no,' Witt thought. Injuries had ravaged Northern Michigan’s O-line and, out of necessity, the Wildcats needed their 6-foot-7, 265-pound tight end to fill in at right tackle. Witt had never played or practiced on the offensive line, but his size made him the next man up. 'After 10 minutes of coaching Jake to play a whole new position, he allowed zero sacks or pressures against the best defensive line in the country,' former Northern Michigan offensive coordinator and interim coach Dylan Chmura later said, via WLUC.")

General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - problem

QPQ: No - Not done
Overall: @BeanieFan11: Good article. Though, it does look like there's some paraphrasing in the article, enough to make want some reworking. Also the hook seems too extravagant. Yes, it is explicitly said in the source but you should either dumb it down a bit or put quotations around it with a mention to who said it. Also "one of the best defenses in the country" what country? Also need QPQ. Onegreatjoke (talk) 19:09, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

  • A ping to BeanieFan11 – can the issues be resolved within a week? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 00:18, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
I should have the issues done by then; I'll make sure to work on this on Sunday or Tuesday at the latest. BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:22, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
@Onegreatjoke: I turned out to be busier than I thought I would, so I only got to this today. Reviewed Template:Did you know nominations/Trimarjono as a qpq and did some rewording of the article; let me know if its enough. As for the hook, I changed the "in the country" phrase to "in the U.S."; as for the hook being "too extravagant," how exactly do you think the hook should be written? Also, if this gets approved, I'd appreciate if it could get reserved for April 29 (when Witt is likely to be a late-round draft pick). BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:45, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
@BeanieFan11: Personally, i'd just say that we should put quotation marks around the "one of the best defenses in the country" part Onegreatjoke (talk) 17:06, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
@Onegreatjoke: So, like this: that although he only had ten minutes to learn to play offensive lineman, college football player Jake Witt was able to successfully block against "the best defensive line" in the U.S.? BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:21, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
Yeah pretty much. Onegreatjoke (talk) 17:22, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
@BeanieFan11: I moved a hook from prep 7 which is the date requested. I will copyedit the article and encourage you to do so also. Bruxton (talk) 21:44, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
