James Allen (running back)[edit]

  • ... that James Allen quit football to become a rapper but decided to return two weeks later?
  • Comment: Will do QPQ tomorrow. I must sleep right now, and I have school tomorrow, so QPQ review will be done tomorrow afternoon; originally unsourced BLP, expanded twofold; will expand further to 1500 characters also tomorrow

  • I don't know when this person retired from NFL. However, if he is still "former", then there must be his second retirement from NFL. Nevertheless, the whole article may be well-informative and well-referenced. All sources are accessible. Hook is very interesting and well-cited. If no expansion is needed, this nomination is ready for promotion. --George Ho (talk) 15:49, 18 December 2012 (UTC) (Changed from grey checkmark [AGF] to "?". --George Ho (talk) 04:44, 22 December 2012 (UTC))
  • I have to ask: Allen may have "decided" to unretire, but was he able to—that is, did he ever play again? This information should really be in the article proper. Also, the article currently claims that it's a stub: if it isn't, the stub template needs to be removed (and this can't pass DYK with the stub template still there). Finally, as best I can tell, the article was expanded from 383 to 2001 prose characters, which is a 5x expansion even though DYKcheck seems to think it isn't. Since the article was the same 383 prose characters a few years ago and didn't fluctuate in the interim, it's perfectly reasonable to use 383 as the base for expansion, and 1915 as the minimum size the article needs to be. • I'm doing some source hunting, and found a source saying that if no team claims him, the Texans will release him, so he may not have played, and according to NFL.com, 2002 was his last year playing. Also, I can't really find any source of his "second retirement". ZappaOMati 16:42, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
This has been sitting for almost a month; I'd like to suggest a slightly reworded ALT1 to cover what we know of the facts and get it moving again:
  • ALT1: ... that James Allen quit football to become a rapper but decided he wanted to return two weeks later?
Using "to return" sounds like he could; "he wanted to return" says nothing about whether he could or did.
Need a new reviewer to check the article revisions and the issues mentioned above to see whether this now passes. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:14, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
  • I've reviewed this, and the article is new enough, long enough and nominated in time. However, there are some issues with the text in the "Professional career" section, which I don't understand. The first two is probably common American football terms (you are talking to a soccer-guy :P), but what does "fumble" mean and how is it relevant? And what does it mean that he was "replaced by Anthomy Thomas"? Some clarification edits to the article would be appreciated. I'm also wondering when Allen played against Cleveland Browns, and whom he played for, given that it's a whole new paragraph. Maybe wikilink Expansion team (i had to search to find out what it meant, but again, we don't play American football in Europe :P). The last two sentence needs to be rewritten to past tense, given that it's ten years ago? I also believe that we can state that he was released by the Texans, given that he never played again. • I linked fumble and expansion team (though the term applies to all sports...), and clarified him getting replaced by A-Train at his starting position. I added the statement that he was released, even though I can't really say anything about sources, but we can safely assume that he was released. ZappaOMati 04:27, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
  • I'm sorry for the delay, but all this need is a green tick, since all my concern have been adressed. When it comes to sourcing of that last sentence, I don't see the big problem, given that he didn't play for any team after 2003 (which isn't hard to source).
