John James Hood Gordon
- ... that John James Hood Gordon and his twin brother Thomas Edward were both generals in the British Army, and joined on the very same day? Source: "General Sir Thomas Edward Gordon [...] The next generation also gave four of its members to the Army [...] the other two being the twin sons of Captain William, namely, my brother, General Sir John, and myself [Sir Thomas Edward]." ("A Varied Life," Thomas Edward Gordon, pp. 1-2)
- Reviewed: John Fraser Hart
- Comment: Thomas Edward Gordon's page does not specifically list that he was promoted to General, though his autobiography (the linked source) confirms it.

- @Mathmitch7: Long enough; no copyvio; new enough; hook cited and interesting; QPQ is in order. Per supplemental rule D2, you're going to need at least one inline cite for each body paragraph. Here's another source for you; you might consider including in the hook the fact that they both joined the army on the same day. Any particular reason for including birth/death years in the hook? We try to avoid parenthesis if at all possible. Once you've added the citations, let me know and I'll complete the formalities. Cheers, Extraordinary Writ (talk) 17:14, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Extraordinary Writ: Thank you! The page is rapidly expanding and actively being edited but currently every single paragraph has a source (it also did at the time of me nominating the page--text was then incorporated from the Dictionary of National Biography without inline attribution, which I've fixed now). I've now modified the hook so that it doesn't include parentheses and now includes the same-day factoid too. - - mathmitch7 (talk/contribs) 19:56, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- You're good to go. I added the same-day-enlistment fact to the article to comply with DYK rule 3. With that, I'm satisfied that all requirements have been complied with. Thanks for nominating this article! Cheers, Extraordinary Writ (talk) 03:24, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
- Citation for TEG's promotion to full general has now been added. The twins joined the army at the same time and were each appointed full general on 1 April 1894. To make the hook 'more hooky', TEG could be referred to as 'General Gordon' which would make many assume it is Charles George Gordon (of Khartoum fame). Perhaps "The twin brother of General Gordon, John James Hood Gordon joined the British Army at the same time and became a full general on the same day." Nedrutland (talk) 07:23, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
- I would support this alternative wording if others prefer it. - - mathmitch7 (talk/contribs) 00:05, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
