José Tomás Canales[edit]

  • ... that Tejano lawmaker José Tomás Canales left politics in 1920 to become a Mexican-American civil rights activist? Source (here): "As a result of the reaction by state legislators against Canales's challenge to the rangers, the Tejano legislator declined to seek reelection in 1920."
    • ALT1:... that Tejano lawmaker José Tomás Canales feared he would be assassinated during his 1919 investigation into the Texas Rangers? Source (here): "Canales’ family feared that he would be assassinated; he walked to the hearings surrounded by friends, including Representative Sam Johnson, father of future President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Years later, Canales wrote that the investigation “nearly cost my life.”"

  • Comment: Thanks for reviewing this DYK for the biography of an overlooked but important Mexican-American lawmaker.

  • @Owlsmcgee: This article is new enough and long enough. Both hooks have inline citations, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. QPQ has been done. The article has a number of citation tags that need to be dealt with before this can proceed. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:12, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
    • Thanks for your time, Cwmhiraeth. I've fixed the citation tags. Would be grateful for your go-ahead. -Owlsmcgee (talk) 16:42, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Thank you, that looks better. This nomination is now good to go with either hook. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:10, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
