Khandana Bhava–Bandhana

[edit]

Swami Vivekananda

Created/expanded by Titodutta (talk). Self nom at 06:53, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

  • Article created by Titodutta on 17 December 2012 with about 1,813 chars of readable prose as of today (excluding song GDFL lyrics which are not in English, but in transliterated Hindu, therefore of no use to the English readership). Please find a GDFL translation for the song if you can. Hook well supported with ext. sources. Conditional "good to go", because the issue of large foreign language paste-up (1,193 chars) needs to be addressed collectively. Poeticbent talk 17:31, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
I have found this. I can add it in the article if it is okay! --Tito Dutta (talk) 08:03, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
Excellent. I suggest you add the first three stanzas only, with the link to wikisource right below explaining that the full text is available there, and remove the transliteration. Thanks, Poeticbent talk 16:17, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
The song is actually in Bengali and it is sung in Bengali too. Only translation will not be helpful! I can write like this Jana_Gana_Mana#Lyrics if necessary. What do you think? --Tito Dutta (talk) 16:23, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
Sounds fine. Do it in two columns if you want, side by side 3 stanzas in Bengali and the same 3 stanzas in English translation preformatted like you showed with the wikisource link below. And, moved the song template up and out of the way. Poeticbent talk 16:32, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
  • The issue of large foreign language paste-up does not appear to have been addressed, and none of the suggestions mades to and agreed to over five days ago have been implemented; the article hasn't been edited for a week. Action still needs to be taken here. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:24, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
I have added the Wikisource translation! --Tito Dutta (talk) 07:16, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
  • Instead of trimming the 1,193 characters of foreign pasteup, Tito Dutta, you doubled it with the English copy-paste job on top ... for the total of 2,038 characters of pasteup. Please consult Wikipedia:Copy-paste for more advice. I'm removing my go-ahead pin. Poeticbent talk 08:03, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
You told "Sounds fine. Do it in two columns if you want", two column has been created there! See Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and attribution in this edit summary--Tito Dutta (talk) 08:11, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
  • Still no action. The suggestion was specifically that only three stanzas in Bengali with the three stanzas in English be included side-by-side: the entire selection in Bengali along with about four stanzas in English seems to be included. Also, the formatting is a problem: on my screen, the English is squashed by the audio box, which ruins the side-by-side formatting of the original and its translation. Can this be fixed somehow? Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:27, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Done. I fixed the problems myself. I hope Tito Dutta is OK with that. I cannot DYKtick my own revisions, so please take a second look, BlueMoonset. And, all best to you, Tito Dutta. Thanks, Poeticbent talk 05:32, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Hoops! The previous translation was correct (I know these three languages, Bengali, Sanskrit, English).. actually Khandana Bhava–Bandhana, jaga-vandana, vandi tomay; this sentence took one stanza in English translation... there are so many untranslatable adjectives in the main lyrics that it took multiple words for each word's translation! --Tito Dutta (talk) 14:02, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
I can quickly solve other remaining issues. Can we have this article on main page on 12 January please? That's author's 150th birth anniversary which is going to celebrated everywhere! --Tito Dutta (talk) 14:04, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
If it is fixed quickly, then it would be possible to get this scheduled for his birthday. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:26, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Fixed: I have removed the lyrics section and linked Wikisource directly, there I am adding the Bengali lyrics too (side by side as it was planned here), which is permitted if English lyrics is also added. --Tito Dutta (talk) 14:46, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Done The Wikisource page is ready too with both Bengali and English lyrics! --Tito Dutta (talk) 15:19, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
  • User has requested the date 12 January (i.e. this should be prepped in about 24 hours) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:53, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Removing the "Fixed" template, which looks like an AGF tick but isn't. This nomination still needs to be re-reviewed, including its new image. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:57 and 15:58, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Adding: I don't think the image, which is not part of the article proper, is eligible for use; it is included in the Swami Vivekananda template at the bottom, which is a different thing altogether. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:08, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Alright, you can choose any image you like from this page. To save time, if you don't think the image is ready or not a single image from that long Commons page will work here, you can drop the idea and go forward without the image. --Tito Dutta (talk) 16:15, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
  • . Good to go. Image (above) is GDFL and it can be used on the front page. I recommend that the hook be featured on Swami Vivekanandas 150th birthday anniversary, January 12, 2013. All issues have been addressed with lyrics reformatted and expanded in Wikisource (not here) by the nominator himself. I'm pleased with how it all worked out nicely. Thank you all, Poeticbent talk 16:54, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Not quite sure on the image, as it is highly unlikely that the original photograph would have been in colour. Colourisation would have introduced a new copyright. The sourcing is also pretty bad. I'm going to be nominating it for deletion. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:48, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
I have replied at the deletion discussion. --Tito Dutta (talk) 23:14, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Since we don't have enough time in hand, image replaced with File:Swami Vivekananda-1893-09-signed.jpg, PD 1923. --Tito Dutta (talk) 23:35, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Okay with the B&W image (or none) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:38, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
