Kuiu Wilderness and Tebenkof Bay Wilderness[edit]

Overlooking Port Malmesbury in the Kuiu Wilderness on Kuiu Island, Alaska.

  • Length, date and hook reference are all in order. No copy vio noted. Img is freely licensed. Good to go.--Nvvchar. 21:00, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Hook feels too advertorial to me. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:39, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
  • My initial thoughts were that it was probably a borderline case, but I erred on the side of promotion because it is verifiably true, and the article itself is not promotional, and has passed a review certifying it as such, as well as my brief examination.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 22:50, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
  • But how much of this is supported by reliable sources? What makes Lat-Long.com, wilderness.net, etc. reliable? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:59, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Well since I wasn't reviewing the article, I didn't examine the other sources, but the specific claim in the hook is sourced to the US forestry service, which is (hopefully) a reliable source.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 23:03, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
  • All you have to do is scroll to the bottom of the wilderness.net front page and your question is answered: "Wilderness.net is a public wilderness information website formed in 1996 through a collaborative partnership between the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center and the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute--the federal government's wilderness training and research arms, respectively--and the College of Forestry and Conservation's Wilderness Institute at the University of Montana." A website operated by a partnership between a federal land management agency and a major public university is two kinds of reliable, particularly given that this information is entirely uncontroversial. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 00:12, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
  • I replaced the Lat-Long.com reference with one to the United States Geological Survey. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 00:40, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
  • If you really don't like the hook I'll be happy to write another one, but I was trying to avoid the usual "Place is X acres or has X things" formulation and actually write about the known attributes of the site. Is it really POV or "promotional" to say that a designated wilderness area is "peaceful?" or that an open-ocean traverse in a kayak is "difficult?" NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 00:25, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
  • I propose this alt hook (I verified the source and I think it's interesting, but someone other than me will need to verify it):
*ALT1: ... that Kuiu Wilderness and Tebenkof Bay Wilderness (pictured) are accessible only by boat or floatplane? --Orlady (talk) 00:39, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Looks interesting and more neutral to me as well. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:43, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
