Laufen Hut, Fritzerkogel, Alpine route

[edit]

Laufen Hut in the Tennen Mountains

Created/expanded by PumpkinSky (talk), Bermicourt (talk), Gerda Arendt (talk). Nominated by PumpkinSky (talk) at 01:03, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

This is an excellent DYK which uses 3 new articles. All three editors worked on each of the articles. Articles are new, long enough, well written, interesting, neutral and cite sources. The sources are there but they are all in German. So I have to accept them in good faith. That is no problem because these three editors are all very experienced editors with many contributions to Wikipedia and to DYK in particular. The hook is quite nice because it is brief, stems from the articles and the "Alpine route" provides enough interest that readers will want to look at the other two articles to see the connection, in my opinion. Image is from Wikimedia Commons; is small in the DYK publication size but still discernible enough and should work. Readers will be rewarded with a view of a nice picture if they click on it. I think the articles and the hook meet all the criteria and the hook is ready to go to the main page. I use the purple check instead of the green one because of the foreign language sources. • Waking up to a surprise, with thanks to PumpkinSky for the nomination and reviewing 3 (!) articles: the hook is nice and short, but I don't think we can say a hut is a route ;) Also, the "route" (article) is under construction ;) I could imagine a crop of the pic for the small size.

Laufen Hut in front of the Fritzerkogel

ALT1: ... that climbers have a choice of two alpine routes to reach the summit of the Fritzerkogel from the Laufen Hut (pictured)?
ALT2: ... that climbers have a choice of two alpine routes to reach the Fritzerkogel, a solitary mountain of the Tennengebirge, from the Laufen Hut (pictured)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:33, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
I like alt1 best. Note Alpine route is not under construction.PumpkinSky talk 08:59, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
To make choices tougher I suggest an alternative pic that is not of such excellent quality but shows both hut and mountain in relation. (This also might be cropped a bit.) Would we say "pictured" twice then? (Note that by "under construction" I mean that I want to include more on alpine routes elsewhere, and hope others will join.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:43, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Br'er Rabbit, for cropping, but both are cropped a bit too much now for my taste, I would like to see the trees on the left and snow on the first (the hut doesn't have to be in the center), and blue sky with the top of the mountain on the second (I know it will take YOU only a second) ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:35, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
The alts meet the criteria. I like both alts but I like alt 2 the best. It is a little more informative without being too long; even with the marks and brackets it is under 200 characters. Also, it should draw in readers. I think the image has been adjusted in line with the last comment. I like it better because it more clearly shows the mountain setting and still shows the hut. The only problem with the original hook that I now see is that the word "on" probably should have been between "is" and "a". The hut is on the route; it is not the route. I should have caught that but I think it was for the best since the alt hooks are better. I think alt2 should be chosen and it is good to go. Donner60 (talk) 20:12, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, Donner60, for sensible words, and you, Br'er Rabbit for cropping a second time, - a great team at work! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:19, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
