Manny Ramirez

[edit]
  • ... that the phrase "Manny being Manny" is named after Manny Ramirez because of his frequent quirky behavior?

Improved to Good Article status by Sportsguy17 (talk). Self-nominated at 12:21, 14 August 2015 (UTC).

  • I think the characterization of Manny Ramirez's behavior as "immature" violates WP:BLP guidelines. The article you have nominated simply characterizes Ramirez's behavior as "quirky;" indeed, the word "immature" does not appear in the article. As far as I can tell, the sources cited by the article documenting "Manny Moments" do not use the word "immature." I would recommend changing the hook to say ". . . because of his frequent quirky behavior" rather than ". . . because of his frequent quirky and immature behavior." If you change the hook to fix the WP:BLP concerns, I think this will have a good chance of being approved. In all other respects, it is a well-written article. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 04:28, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
  • @Notecardforfree: I have removed that bit. I had meant to do it earlier, but that didn't happen. Anyway, should be set now. Sportsguy17 (TC) 12:13, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Thanks so much for fixing that -- I think this hook is now good to go. The article was promoted to GA on the day of the nomination, article is long enough, hook is under 200 characters, content is interesting, QPQ satisfied, and there are no other issues with the article. The characterization of Manny Ramirez's character as "quirky" is supported by sources and cited via in-line citation in the article. I think the word "quirky" is is innocent enough and does't conflict with WP:BLP. Good work! Best, -- Notecardforfree (talk) 13:41, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Do you want to identify him as "professional baseball player Manny Ramirez" or "Major League Baseball player Manny Ramirez"? Yoninah (talk) 01:12, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Probably professional baseball player, Yoninah, because he played outside of the MLB and professional baseball player may be a little more universally understandable. Sportsguy17 (TC) 01:16, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
  • OK, thanks. Restoring tick and promoting it, too! Yoninah (talk) 01:17, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
