Mark Takano

[edit]

Created/expanded by Muboshgu (talk). Self nom at 20:31, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

  • Putting aside the IOU in review, there is the technicality that the prose review gives me 249 words - 1 under 250 for "not a stub" limit :> I further agree with the nom that the article should be published, and hook should be rephrased, after the election. As such I suggest that this article be re-reviewed after that period, and that this nom is moved to the "selected anniversaries" section, perhaps for late November?

  • The IOU is still there because I didn't expect a same day review! I'll add a qpq in the next day or so. I didn't know 250 was a technical definition of a stub. I've expanded it a bit more so it's clear of that hurdle. We already have an "After November 6" holding area for some of these politicians I've been creating articles for, and this article should go there, promoting them at whatever rate. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:10, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
  • QPQ has been completed; DYKcheck shows that article has 1744 prose characters and meets 5x expansion rules as well. Leaving full review to someone else. Hook can be adjusted after election, since this will be held until then. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:17, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Has this received a full review yet? Because the source doesn't back up the hook. The hook says "first non-White openly gay member", the source says "first openly gay Asian-American". I don't know how the two got to be equated. StAnselm (talk) 20:50, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
    • Well, he would be the first non-White. I can find a source that more explicitly says that. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:16, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
  • I have added a notability tag to the article. If he fails to be elected, he won't pass WP:POLITICIAN, and I have my doubts whether he would pass WP:GNG. StAnselm (talk) 03:03, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
    • I think that is a mistake because the sourcing, which discusses him outside of the campaigns, should pass the threshold of GNG. But I'll leave that to another party to decide. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:16, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Update: It appears the results of this election are still outstanding, though Takano has a lead and appears likely to win. This shall be updated when we have a declaration. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:20, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
  • I've removed the notability tag: if somehow Takano doesn't win after being declared the winner by a number of media outlets, including the New York Times, it's going to be a notable shock indeed, as he's ahead by 16K votes with a margin of over 12.7%. The county has over 499K votes counted already, with another 105K vote-by-mail, 60K provisional, and 18K damaged ballots still to count, but the district is a fraction of the county. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:25, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes, fair enough. I also see that references have been added to support "non-white". And I guess that's the same as "person of colour". StAnselm (talk) 22:55, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Adjusting hook to reflect that Takano won the election (wording had listed both possibilities). Hook is interesting, and its facts are supported by inline citations. Article is long enough (DYKcheck returns 1991 prose characters), neutral, Takano is notable as a congressperson-elect, and all paragraphs are supported by citations.
