Microconsole[edit]

  • This hook sounds a bit spammy, and doesn't reflect the source, which states that they are "a potential new market space for developers". The article is also spammy I'm afraid, and not something I think should be linked from the main page (it's all about what a great idea these consoles are and how "excited" people are about them - I find it hard to believe that people aren't also pointing out that these consoles are entering an already crowded market and need to compete with the major players as well as increasingly powerful phones and tablets). The repetition of 'console' is also awkward. Nick-D (talk) 10:27, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
The article is about a video game term (microconsole) for a new series of products. I just wrote the article last night—you don't think I can address all of the things you find unsatisfactory about it? Also I only added the low-cost and specific consoles for extra color—if you find the repeated use of console and market to be spammy, you could at least give me a chance to work with your feedback. czar · · 16:05, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
All right, I've done some heavy article editing to remove anything that could be misconstrued as spammy, addressed your line about lack of criticism, revamped the proposed hook and added an alt hook below. What do you think? czar · · 19:38, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

The article is now in good shape, but this hook is clearly non-neutral and not terribly clear. I'd suggest a hook based on what these devices are - they're an interesting new field of technology which few people will have heard of. Nick-D (talk) 23:56, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
What do you think of the modified original hook above, or ALT: ... that small, low-cost microconsoles like Ouya, GameStick, and GamePop comprise a new field of video game console alternatives? I'd appreciate specific suggestions if you have them to give, as I don't exactly know what you're looking for. (Also the platforms are universally and uncontestedly called less restrictive/more accessible for devs and a boon for indie devs, so I'm not sure about the NPOV point.) czar · · 01:48, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
That alt looks good to me, and this is now good to go. I've just struck the initial proposed hook as I think that it's a bit spammy (it's advocating the view that these consoles are likely to be successful), and is also not as interesting as the alt (not many people are interested in independent games developers, but consoles are a topic of fairly wide interest).
