Hi EagerToddler39, thanks for the review. From what I am aware of, the hook is cited in the second paragraph of Early life and career in sources 2, 9, and 14. It's not in a single sentence, however, so that might be the confusion. Anyways, I'm okay with your alternative hook. ComputerJA (☎ • ✎) 05:29, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
  • I read the entire article and saw the reference to which you refer. However the main statement to which this DYK links is "In January 2009, he began to work for Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), a New York-based nonprofit organization that raises awareness and protects press freedom and journalists' rights across the world" and "O'Connor was Mexico's correspondent for CPJ".   • Not done. I requested the citations be placed at the end of EACH statement. The reader shouldn't have to wait for the third sentence to see the citation. EagerToddler39 (talk)

  • Other checks - Very interesting article and hook. Ran all English-language web sources through the duplication detector. Found a few instances of close paraphrasing and fixed. Article has appropriate image but it cannot be used on DYK because it is copyrighted. Article inline cited throughout. One additional concern - this source (footnote 8) doesn't support anything in the line in which it is being used. Either fix that link so that it goes somewhere useful or omit it entirely. In any case both of them are primary sources - i.e. articles on the site of the organization with which O'Connor worked. Could you please include an independent source to reference this information. Also, if this hook is eventually approved I would propose holding it until February 8, his birthday. Would that be ok? EagerToddler39 (talk) 15:16, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Hi, the source you pointed out supports the description of CPJ as a "New York-based nonprofit organization that raises awareness and protects press freedom and journalists' rights across the world" (not a direct quote from the source, though). I just replaced it with a secondary source, however. Now, though the other source is a primary one, I see no problem using it. I am not interpreting an analysis nor making synthetic claims. It's okay to use them if exercised with caution (see: WP:PRIMARY). The claim is merely saying he worked for CPJ in Mexico, not that "His words and his actions on behalf of press freedom will continue to be an inspiration to all of us." [1]. And I'm perfectly fine saving this hook for February 8 (his birthday). It's a good idea. ComputerJA (☎ • ✎) 00:05, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

  • I added an extra reference on how dangerous it is to work as a journalist in Mexico. There are adequate references (LA Times) for the subject working at CPJ. This should solve any sourcing issues. Inline citations appear throughout the article. Article and hook are interesting. No more close paraphrasing. The image cannot be used in the DYK. This article is approved with the AGF tick (due to non-English sources) and 'should be run on February 8 (the subject's birthday). - tucoxn\talk 01:28, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
