Miri, Malaysia

[edit]

Sceneries around Miri city

  • ... that Miri (pictured) is the first town in Malaysia which is not a state capital to be granted city status?
  • ALT1: ... that Miri (pictured) is named after a minority ethnic group called "Jatti Meirek" which stayed here for centuries?
  • ALT2: ... that Miri (pictured) is the birthplace of Scottish professional footballer Shaun Maloney?
  • Comment: The hook is taken from the last paragraph of the "Recent Developments" section

  • Promoted to GA status on May 25, 2015, all non-lead paragraphs have inline citations, several checks for copyvio using Google searches reveals no problems (some websites use content copied from the Wikipedia article), content of the hook, ALT1 and ALT2 is backed by inline citations to reliable sources in the article (hook source, ALT1 source, ALT2 source), the image is properly licensed and was created from images that are properly licensed, per QPQ Check, nominator is exempt from performing a QPQ review. I prefer the initial hook, and since the granting of city status occurred in the past, I recommend the the hook's slight alteration using past-tense wording and also with an added wikilink, as below in ALT3.
