Morphsuits[edit]

Three people wear Morphsuit costumes. This covers their entire bodies in one colour each: orange, red, and purple.

  • ... that the Morphsuits brand of zentai bodysuits is considered the world's largest costume brand?
  • Comment: I'd love if this was posted to front page on Halloween, it seems rather appropriate, even though these are marketed as "year-round" costumes. (Article was started about a month ago, but that was in the namespace. Only moved to the mainspace today, October 21.

  • Alt1: ... that the Morphsuits brand of zentai bodysuits outsources all positions, except those of the founders?
  • Alt2: ... that the generic name for spandex bodysuit, like the popular Morphsuits brand, is "zentai"?
  • Alt3: ... that 250,000 Morphsuits brand zentai were sold in the company's 2010-11 fiscal year alone?
  • Article is long enough and new enough, sourcing is OK (with the exception of one bare youtube URL), and I did not notice any plagiarism. Image license is OK. That takes us to the hooks. Most of them seem advert-like to me. Additionally:
  • The original hook isn't fully supported. One of the company's founders said, in a self-promotional blurb, it's the world's largest "fancy dress" brand. I guess "fancy dress" is a British usage for "costume," but the connection isn't obvious. Furthermore, the fact that something was said by one person is a far cry from its being "considered" true. Too advert-like, anyway.
  • Alt1 is the least advert-like of the three, and it checks out as supported by both the article and the cited source. However, in the context of "morphing", the word "positions" is confusing, and I have doubts about whether "zentai" is the best way to describe these bodysuits. I'd suggest a revision:
  • Alt4: ... that aside from the jobs of the business' three founders, all employment for the Morphsuits brand of spandex bodysuits is outsourced?
  • Alt2 is implied in the article and in some sources, but it's never directly stated. No good. Anyway, as worded, it's an advert.
  • Alt3 is supported by the article and a reliable source, but it's basically a boast (advert-like).
In summary, the one hook that I'd consider is ALT1, reworded as ALT4. However, it's not particularly interesting, particularly for a topic as quirky as this one. Here are some other ideas:
  • ALT5: ... that, with some 760,000 followers, the Morphsuits page on Facebook is a major element in the company's marketing?
  • ALT6: ... that the majority of the customers for Morphsuits bodysuits are men, but the business aims to attract more female customers? --Orlady (talk) 14:22, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm curious as to the advert suggestions. Morphsuits company has actively disassociated themselves with the word "zentai", and maintained the illusion that they originated the idea for the outfits, when in fact it existed for many years prior. If anything, they'd actively dislike being featured on WP's main page with that hook. It's the same as if Bandaid was being featured, we'd describe it as a plastic bandage. Bandaid uses that generic term on their packaging, while Morphsuits doesn't use generic terms on their's, but indeed it was the accepted generic term for full-body spandex costumes, before mainstream marketing of them.
If the "ad" objections remain, Alt4 or Alt5 are fine. -- Zanimum (talk) 16:35, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
I never heard of Morphsuits or zentai before reading this article (which was interesting) and the sources. I recognize that there are negative connotations to "zentai." My perception that these hooks "read like adverts" does not mean the hooks would help sell the product, nor that you had any intention of doing that, just that the overall wording and structure of the hooks appeared to promote the brand name.
I put tickmarks next to hooks ALT4 and ALT5. I AGFed ALT 5 because I couldn't reach the online source when I tried to check it. If an image is used, make sure it's one that appears in the Morphsuits article. --Orlady (talk) 21:02, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Why was this moved to November 9 in the Special occasion holding area? MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 06:12, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I have no clue why it would have been moved. I'm moving it back where it was. When an article creator thinks a hook belongs on a special date, they need to give their reason and get someone else to agree. --Orlady (talk) 13:59, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh, didn't know that that was policy. Whatever date then is fine. -- Zanimum (talk) 17:13, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
