Noah Galloway

[edit]

Created by Wgolf (talk). Nominated by Shhhhwwww!! (talk) at 16:52, 24 March 2015 (UTC).

Reviewed: Maria Radner
  • @Shhhhwwww!!: please submit a QPQ. Yoninah (talk) 21:19, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
  • The article was created on March 17, and expanded well beyond the minimum 1500 characters by March 24. It's neutral and cites sources, though a few of those sources are rather iffy (not sure the blogs or a personal website count as reliable sources, for example). The Duplicate Detector tool doesn't find any issues of significance. The hook is of sufficient succinctness, but doesn't pack much of a punch; unfortunately, lots of soldiers have lost limbs in war. I'd suggest a hook that highlights his motivational speaking, or his place on Dancing with the Stars; I've suggested a couple of alternatives in case others agree. This is the nominator's first DYK, so (despite Yoninah's request) a QPQ is not required; given that JPartyboy added most of the article's information, he should probably receive DYK credit too. This article is good to go. MeegsC (talk) 14:58, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that despite losing two limbs in an IED attack, former US soldier Noah Galloway is competing successfully in this season's Dancing with the Stars competition?
  • ALT2 ... that former US soldier Noah Galloway, who lost two limbs to an IED attack in Iraq, is a motivational speaker who challenges his audiences to offer "no excuses"?
  • MeegsC, Shhhhwwww!! has over a dozen DYK nominations by now, and is certainly required to do a QPQ. All you have to do is look at his talk page, and you'll see plenty of messages acknowledging the many DYKs that hit the main page. The QPQ submitted, Maria Radner, is clearly ineligible; all that was done was to suggest an ALT hook late in the game, after substantive reviews by others, and a final review by yet someone else. Suggestions are not reviews, so this does not qualify; Shhhhwwww!! will have to do an actual review from scratch. I have also struck the original hook, which I agree is not adequate, and moved the ALT hooks to after your review so it's clear they were suggested by you, and will need to be reviewed by someone else. I think your point about sourcing is well taken: more reliable secondary sources are needed (which definitely does not include Willow's blog). The Men's Health cover article should be used as a source or even the various news sources about it (Today show, New York Daily News, etc.), and the latest Men's Health interview here. I'd want more than Noah's own website to back up hook facts. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:23, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
  • References improved, "citation needed" taken care of. I'll be supplying a QPQ in the next 48 hours, since Shhhhwwww!! clearly won't—it would be a shame to have this fail for that reason. A new reviewer is needed for the ALT hooks and to see whether the sourcing needs further improvement, keeping in mind that a QPQ is imminent. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:18, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Note: QPQ is Template:Did you know nominations/Arms and the Dudes. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:30, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
I cannot be sure whether the references were improved enough. I would say that if we have taken care of the hook, then yes, the article is good to go. @MeegsC: which hook you would prefer? OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 07:53, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
@OccultZone:, either one's fine, though I would guess that ALT1 might get more clicks. MeegsC (talk) 12:36, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes the first one is more neutral. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 13:47, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
OccultZone, if you think this is indeed ready for approval, please supply the appropriate icon at the beginning of a comment below. Many thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 21:00, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
Yeah it is good to go. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 00:42, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
