Paddy Mahon[edit]

Created/expanded by Nigej (talk). Self-nominated at 22:17, 19 November 2017 (UTC).

  • I bolded the subject, but don't know to shorten and format the long thing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:12, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
  • I have trimmed it. Nigej (talk) 08:27, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
  • Article was created within the required time and is well over the requirement for size. Does not appear to have copyplag issues after checking a few Gnews Archive pages. However - and given the unfortunate delay in this being gotten to, I hate not to be able to just tick it, but them's the rules - there is no QPQ, and the creator-nominator has five DYK credits, meaning QPQ is required. @Nigej:, if you don't mind fixing that up, this will be good to go. - The Bushranger One ping only 11:49, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks for that. Sorry to say that I've never heard of the QPQ so will have to look into it. Nigej (talk) 13:11, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
  • @Nigej: Quid pro quo; if you have five or more DYK credits, you have to review one DYK nomination for each nomination that you make. You then mention it here, it's checked, and the review proceeds. - The Bushranger One ping only 13:16, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
I'd like to withdraw my nomination. Sorry for any effort wasted but I hadn't realised the effort required to get it through. Nigej (talk) 09:06, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Nigej, donating this QPQ (Marvin Pipkin) to get your nomination through. Although it might seem daunting at first, reviewing really isn't a hard process; depending on the article it can sometimes take just a few minutes. --Usernameunique (talk) 20:05, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Confirming as the original reviewer. And yeah, sometimes it can be a little frustrating (especially when there's a lack of unreviewed hooks...) but once you get into it it can actually be pretty quick and easy, especially if you manage to find a well-prepared article. - The Bushranger One ping only 20:15, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi, I came by to promote this, but I don't understand what's hooky about the hook. Even if you don't give away the reason ("as required by the Ryder Cup rules"), I don't understand why it's hooky. Yoninah (talk) 23:10, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
@Yoninah: It's because of the fact that the rules snubbed him for being Irish, basically. Perhaps the following hook might work better? - The Bushranger One ping only 23:28, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
  • @The Bushranger: yes, that's better, but perhaps we should say who he was/how great he was for all the non-golfing readers? Yoninah (talk) 23:32, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: Good point. I've added a bit to the hook for that - saying "his country's" so that the "Irish" bit winds up as the reveal at the end. (I'm not sure which order "that year" and "1937" look best in, feel free to swap them if you think it's gramatically less of a train wreck.) - The Bushranger One ping only 23:37, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks, that's great. ALT1 hook refs verified and cited inline. Rest of review above. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 23:41, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
