Paul Kelpe[edit]

Abstract panel from the Williamsburg Housing Project murals

  • ... that Paul Kelpe, painter of two of the first U.S. abstract murals (one pictured), was criticized for murals being too abstract, but an abstract arts group asked him to resign because his work wasn't abstract enough?

Note: I've struck the original hook per Rjanag's mantra. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 01:45, 6 November 2012 (UTC).
  •  In progress
  • Mandarax, you might want to adjust the length on the hook. I count it at 215 characters. — Maile (talk) 18:44, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
  • A (pictured) doesn't count. You may click on the "Back to T:TDYK" link above and then run DYKcheck to verify that the official hook length is 205. GOOD 2 GO - Mandarax, I learned something here - that the "pictured" phrase is not part of the hook character count. And it was a pleasurable read doing this one. I did so enjoy learning about this artist and his work. Thank you for writing it.— Maile (talk) 21:51, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Thank you very much for the kind words!

BTW, I was curious about the most recent previous DYK which featured an image of an abstract painting. I looked at every month's archive from the present back through October 2010, and didn't find a single one. So it's been over two years! MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 22:23, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
