Queen Charlotte's Ball[edit]

  • ... that at the Queen Charlotte's Ball, a birthday cake is the real queen?
    • ALT1: ... that at the Queen Charlotte's Ball, debutantes curtsey to a giant birthday cake? Source: "You stand up a bit taller, which is wonderful when you have to enter a room, process in front of 250 people, and then make a deep curtsey to a cake." ([1])

  • article is long enough, no copyvio, includes reliable sources. Awaiting for QPQ ___CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 13:01, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
I thought that, in order for QPQ to be a requirement, the nominator has to already have 5 DYK credits: Exception: If, at the time a nomination is promoted to the main page, its nominator has fewer than five DYK credits (whether or not self-nominated) then the nomination is exempt from QPQ. I currently have 3 DYK credits. I am more than happy to do a QPQ but I don't believe, at this time, it is a requirement. Have I misunderstood something? -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 16:17, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came to promote this, but I don't understand the hook at all. Why don't you just say they curtsey to a cake? That's quirky enough. Yoninah (talk) 21:57, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
  • I thought that calling the cake, which they curtsey to, the 'queen' was a fun play on the name of the ball as well. If it would be better to change it so a more simple statement, I can. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 22:16, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
  • The hook fact must be verified by a source, which it isn't. Please provide an alt hook. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:19, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
  • Thank you. I restored the thread so others can follow the discussion. In future, please add new alts rather than edit the old ones.
  • I read the sources and fixed up the article regarding the curtseying. In the beginning they curtseyed to Queen Charlotte, afterwards they curtseyed to the reigning monarch. In the 21st-century revival, they curtsey to the cake.
  • Thank you! Although, the tradition of curtsying to the cake at the ball began before the 21st-century [2] -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 23:28, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
  • ALT1 hook ref verified and cited inline. Rest of review per CAPTAIN MEDUSA. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 23:14, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
