Redstone Inn[edit]

  • New article, start date fine, length fine, article has four wikilinks to Osgood Castle, which does not exist. Is this article being created now? Mgrē@sŏn 00:22, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
  • It will be within the next week or so, I think. In the meantime I could remove them until I create the article (which I've got a DYK in mind for, so I don't want to draw it out). Or I could create a stub (which I hate to do). Daniel Case (talk) 04:01, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
  • Comment: Having a red link is not a problem, but having four wikilinks to one article constitutes WP:OVERLINKING. Especially in the case of a missing article, two to three of them should be delinked. Marrante (talk) 15:18, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
I sort of understand in the case of a redlink, but it's been sort of accepted for a while that every time a term that a reader might want explained is reintroduced in a new section, it should be linked ("... if helpful for readers, links may be repeated in infoboxes, tables, image captions, footnotes, and at the first occurrence after the lead"). I didn't violate that rule. Don't be so strict. Daniel Case (talk) 20:51, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
  • I removed three of the four wikilinks, so it should not violate WP:OVERLINKING. The rest of the article looks fine, references are good, but the hook could use some pizzazz. How about ..
  • ALT2:... that Colorado's Redstone Inn (pictured), originally a 1900s dormitory for unmarried male Colorado Fuel and Iron workers, had indoor plumbing, electricity and telephone when it was built?
Looks good to me, after I tweaked it to make sure that we're clear it had these features originally. Daniel Case (talk) 21:28, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
  • IMHO, article is ready to go with ALT2 hook. Mgrē@sŏn 13:10, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Just a reply to Daniel Case' comment about overlinking — notice the cases for repetition: types of usage, footnote, table, caption, infobox, etc. and the first occurrence after the lede. What you had was several places in the text. That's overlinking. Had it been once in a caption, once in an infobox, etc., I wouldn't have said anything. It's clear that those would need wikilinks because those are places a reader is apt to look at any time and/or before beginning to actually read an article. Don't be "so strict"? No, it's more like this: if something is worth doing, it's worth doing well. Marrante (talk) 23:13, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
