Roksan Xerxes[edit]

Created by Ohconfucius (talk). Self nominated at 14:40, 12 July 2013 (UTC).

  • Article is long enough and new enough. As the reference is to a Xerxes brand record player rather than the Persian king, some may view this as too "April Foolsy" for any day other than April 1. The sources do confirm that the TV character Inspector Morse listened to a Roksan Xerxes record player. I'm not of the view that such light-hearted hooks should necessarily be limited to April Fools Day. Accordingly, I'm passing it. If others feel strongly that such a hook should only appear on April Fools Day, speak up now. I've highlighted the actual facts here so there is no angst after the hook is run. Note: My review was limited to the original hook. The alt was added after I began work on this. Cbl62 (talk) 14:59, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
The alt hook doesn't work. Aside from being extreme in its April Fools nature, the hook asserts the point as a factual matter when it was simply an opinion expressed by a particular review. So the alt doesn't work. Approval is as to the first hook only. Cbl62 (talk) 15:58, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
On further reflection, I think we ought to have an article ("a") inserted before Xerxes so as to ensure its accuracy. I don't think that will in any way take away from the "hmmm... let's click and find out" element of the hook. Accordingly, I'm taking the liberty of inserting the article. Ohconfucius, please let me know if you object to what I've done. Cbl62 (talk) 16:03, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
I still actually prefer the original but have no problem with the amended blurb. In actual fact, if to be truly accurate, it should read "that Inspector Morse liked listening to his music on a Xerxes", but I don't want to go there. -- Ohc ¡digame!¿que pasa? 15:51, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
I'm actually fine with it either way. But I do think that inserting the article makes it more straightforward, without spoiling the fun of the hook, and less likely to draw fire from DYK critics. Cbl62 (talk) 20:05, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
OK, let's leave it as it is. FWIW, the "interesting" criterion is a recipe for attracting trivia and other nonsense anyway. -- Ohc ¡digame!¿que pasa? 02:05, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
