Rwandan Civil War[edit]

  • ... that the Rwandan Patriotic Front came to power in Rwanda as a result of victory in the Rwandan Civil War ...? Source: "The victorious RPF assumed control of Rwanda following the genocide, and as of 2017 remain the dominant political force in the country."[1]

Improved to Good Article status by Amakuru (talk). Self-nominated at 21:20, 17 July 2017 (UTC).

  • Was nominated after the 7 day period, but I will go with WP:IAR as this is the 3rd DYK of the editor. GA - So length and referencing is good enough. Copyvio unlikely, as expected. The reference for the hook does mention that they came to power, though it does not comment on how they came to power, which is probably okay as it is omitted in the hook as well. Hook is not very hooky and I would have expected something more interesting from such a long article - though the current hook is okay as well. Hook is within criteria and there is no accompanying image with it. Overall good to go. Jupitus Smart 09:30, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
  • @Jupitus Smart: if the hook is not very hooky, then please do not approve the nomination, but ask for another hook. This is a GA, after all. Yoninah (talk) 00:18, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
@Amakuru:, could you suggest another hook, now that another editor has also felt that the hook is pretty bland. Jupitus Smart 03:21, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

@Jupitus Smart: How about ALT1?

ALT1: that following the Rwandan Civil War, two million Hutu refugees fled to neighboring countries (refugee camp pictured) fearing reprisals?" --Usernameunique (talk) 19:54, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

  • With no response from Jupitus Smart, I will review the new hook. The hook facts are cited inline to a book source and this hook is more interesting than the original. The article is plenty long enough. It was nominated a few days late but that has been accepted. The image is in the public domain, the article is neutral and I detected no plagiarism or close paraphrasing issues. Ready to go with ALT1. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:32, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
