Ryan Lavarnway[edit]

5x expanded by Epeefleche (talk). Self nom at 05:34, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

  • Long enough (and didnt even need DYK check, though still used (it was also nom'd as 5x but added within 2 days of creation so itll fit by both categories)), cites look good, article is stable, but the hook phrase doesnt mention the Red Sox there. it may be true but the wording from the hook to the article seems like synthesis.Lihaas (talk) 21:52, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks -- didn't think it was much in the way of synthesis, but to avoid any issues I've added a ref that mentions both the tools phrase and his playing for the Red Sox (the add suggests that he won't employ the tools on a full-time basis ...). Best.--Epeefleche (talk) 22:10, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
It was totally AGF and the article looks good. Just worried about the hook thats not mentioned in prose there. Either an alt hook or a re-word of prose should pass this.Lihaas (talk) 22:29, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
The ref that was added after your comment addresses your point. The added ref does mention the Red Sox there. It says: "the Boston Red Sox club has promoted catcher/designated hitter Ryan Lavarnway to the Major Leagues. He made his debut Thursday night ... Lavarnway has made strides behind the plate, but it’s still hard to find a scout that thinks he’ll wear the tools of ignorance at the MLB level on a full-time basis."--Epeefleche (talk) 22:38, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Firstly, sorry for the delay.
As for the hook, the prose shouldbe in the article and sourced not the wording from the source used as a hook. Alternatively, another hook could be better. Perhaps "Lavarnway started the 2011 season by splitting it between Portland and the Pawtucket Red Sox in the Class AAA International League" or "he collected his first career hit, a single off Kansas City Royals' pitcher Jeff Francis"
Also can we clarify, perhaps under "notes" that tools of ignorance is/why its called so.Lihaas (talk) 17:19, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
I've further clarified the hook in the article, both by adding text, by adding a footnote in an article on Lavarway that explains why the tools are called the tools of ignorance, and by inlining to the wp definition of the tools of ignorance.--Epeefleche (talk) 20:06, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Based on previous review; who he plays with is cited, tools of ignorance is cited, and explained. Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:32, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
