Scaled piculet[edit]

  • ... that the scaled piculet may be a fairly common bird, being overlooked because of its unobtrusive behaviour? Source: "Possibly not uncommon, and may perhaps be overlooked owing to inconspicuous behaviour."
  • ALT1 ... that the scaled piculet is a member of the woodpecker family?

Solid facts on few but good sources (please format #2), no copyvio obvious. Sorry, I find the hook telling me almost nothing, and confess that I don't know how to understand the wording of the source "may be not uncommon". How about telling us (also in the article) that they belong to the woodpeckers (I don't think general readers know that by the Latin family), and where they live. Or something you like better? Anything without "may be" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:48, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: I have added an ALT1. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:32, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
Fine, not exciting though. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:46, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
I have to agree with Gerda here, ALT1 is fairly bland. A new hook should probably be suggested here: personally I think the information in the article about its migration has potential. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 07:56, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: How about ALT2 then? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:27, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
  • ALT2 ... that the scaled piculet is historically found in Colombia and Venezuela but is extending its range southwards, perhaps in response to forest clearance? Source: "Range: Parts of Colombia and Venezuela. Apparently extending range southwards into wetter regions, probably in response to deforestation."
Good idea but lacking "bird" at all. Don't think that all readers will know that a piculet is a bird. I didn't. Narutolovehinata5, I like your personal comments, but I don't like holding up a review with the formal icon. I am watching, and willing to consider, but blandness is no failure serious enough to revoke an approval ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:33, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
If they don't know what a piculet is, they can always click on the link to find out. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:05, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
I don't see a link to piculet. Who do you think will click not knowing if the thing is an insect or what? Actually, without help we don't even know it's an animal. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:30, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
OK, try again. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:18, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
  • ALT2a ... that the scaled piculet is historically found in Colombia and Venezuela but the bird is extending its range southwards, perhaps in response to forest clearance?
ALT2a preferred, but I reverted striking the original, - bland but approved. Thank you for trying and trying. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:28, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt and Cwmhiraeth original hook has shaky grammar. IMO it would need to be changed to something like "that the scaled piculet may be a fairly common bird but may be overlooked because of its unobtrusive behaviour?" --valereee (talk) 12:38, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Your version is better than the original. Let's call it ALT0a.
  • ALT0a ... that the scaled piculet may be a fairly common bird but may be overlooked because of its unobtrusive behaviour? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:46, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
also approved. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:07, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
