... that construction of New York City's Staten Island Tunnel was supposedly halted due to competition between three subway companies?

ALT1:... that at 10,400 feet (3,200 m), the incomplete Staten Island Tunnel, planned in 1912, could have been the world's longest tunnel?
ALT2:... that the unfinished Staten Island Tunnel, planned in 1912, would have been the first direct land connection between Staten Island and the rest of New York City?

ALT1b:... that at 10,400 feet (3,200 m), the Staten Island Tunnel would have been the world's longest tunnel, but it was abandoned after only 150 feet (46 m) of it was built?
