Sue Bailey Thurman[edit]

The Historical Cookbook of the American Negro
The Historical Cookbook of the American Negro

Improved to Good Article status by SusunW (talk), Penny Richards (talk), Rosiestep (talk), Ipigott (talk), Dr. Blofeld (talk), and We hope (talk). Nominated by SusunW (talk) at 16:32, 30 August 2015 (UTC).

  • Long enough; GA enough; GA'ed recently enough; QPQ QPQed; no bad stuff done with other people's text; pic is ok to use, but a bit meaningless at DYK size; hook is OK but doesn't flow very well as it has her using food to write which is going to be messy (I suppose she could get away with a squeezy sauce bottle); how about:
ALT ... that Sue Bailey Thurman wrote a "palatable history" of professional black women in a cookbook which was published by the National Council of Negro Women in 1958?
Somebody else will need to give it the final tick if you use that (quick QPQers, save yourself the trouble of doing a review by approving my ALT; limited time offer; must end soon!) Belle (talk) 22:40, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Belle. I'm fine with the change in the hook. Sorry the photo is so small, but I had to add the fly page when I realized the cover did not have her name on it. I just was glad to find a picture at all. Most are owned by those Universities they deposited their archives with. SusunW (talk) 22:58, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Calling for a reviewer for the ALT hook. CoooOOOOOooooOOOOoooeeeeee! Belle (talk) 10:29, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
Oh Hi ... the Alt is fine its OK for length and its sourced on-line to a secondary source. I suspect the image of her though stands more chance of making the front page.... or cut down the book image to create a crop just for the DYK. Thanks Victuallers (talk) 13:26, 3 September 2015 (UTC) Would ... that Sue Bailey Thurman wrote a cookbook which was a "palatable history" of professional black women? be hookier? Victuallers (talk) 13:29, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Victuallers Can't use the image of her. It is fair use. Have found no images of her that are not copyrighted. Belle What if we just use:
  • ALT2 ... that in 1958 Sue Bailey Thurman used a cookbook to publish a "palatable history" of professional black women? SusunW (talk) 16:29, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
  • That's fine with ALT2 and everything else per my earlier review. Ready to go. Belle (talk) 16:37, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
  • I moved "in 1958". Where it was at the end, it could be interpreted as saying that it merely covered the events of 1958, rather than being published in 1958 and spanning the whole history. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 22:14, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
