Tom Ballard (climber)

[edit]
  • ... that Tom Ballard and his mother disappeared in the Himalayas 24 years apart? Source: About 110,000 euros (£95,000) has been raised to continue the search for two climbers who went missing on a peak in Pakistan seven days ago. Briton Tom Ballard and Italian Daniele Nardi last made contact from Nanga Parbat on 24 February. Tensions between Pakistan and India and poor flying weather have delayed rescue attempts. The cash will keep funding a helicopter team, which is said to cost about 50,000 euros (£43,000) a day. Mr Ballard, 30, originally from Belper, Derbyshire, is the son of Alison Hargreaves, who died descending from the summit of K2 in 1995 - the same year she became the first woman to conquer Everest unaided. • This has been all over the news, quite sad. Article is new enough, long enough, neutral, and well referenced. QPQ is done. No copyvio detected. I think the main hook is much better, although "disappeared" should be changed to "died", as Ballard's death is now confirmed, and his mother was not reported missing. -Zanhe (talk) 02:07, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks @Zanhe:. I prefer the first one too. How about rewording it to:
Great, ALT2 good to go. -Zanhe (talk) 15:48, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came to promote ALT2, but first found a source for his mother's date of death, which was 23 years and 6 months earlier. You could write "23 1/2 years apart", or something else. Yoninah (talk) 23:05, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi Yoninah, Thanks for updating the article with the more precise date. I don't really mind how it's worded but to my mind the hook feels neater as a round number of years - 23 if rounded down or 24 if rounded up. As it's 23 years, 6 months and a couple of weeks it would seem logical to round to 24, but I'm not that fussed. Do you feel strongly that the interval needs to be expressed to the nearest half year? @Yoninah: ALT2a sounds good to me. Thanks for your help! PeaBrainC (talk) 08:14, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
  • Thanks. Restoring tick for ALT2a per Zanhe's review. Yoninah (talk) 11:14, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
